Do we want DeHop?

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl...9536dcd3&ei=21

Story by Andrew Gould

The Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl without a star wide receiver, but they could reportedly make an elite offense even scarier by acquiring DeAndre Hopkins.

NFL insider Benjamin Albright told PHNX Cardinals that Kansas City is the "primary suitor" for Hopkins. He doesn't know the draft compensation the Cardinals would receive, but he said it's more likely they get a second-round pick than a first.

After the 2022 season, theScore's Jordan Schultz reported that the Cardinals plan to trade Hopkins this offseason.

Arizona hired a new general manager and head coach after a disappointing four-win season, and Hopkins is set to make $19.45 million (with a $30.75 million cap hit) in 2023. The Cardinals could seek a clean slate by moving the three-time All-Pro wideout, who turns 31 in June.

Hopkins began his Cardinals career by tallying 1,407 yards and six touchdowns in 2020. However, multiple lower body injuries limited him to 10 games in 2021, and he served a six-game suspension to start the 2022 season for violating the NFL's PED policy.

Yet he remains an impact player when on the field. Hopkins totaled 474 receiving yards in six full games with quarterback Kyler Murray last season.

Now imagine what he can accomplish when catching passes from Patrick Mahomes.

The Chiefs flourished without a star replacement for Tyreek Hill, but they could still benefit by solidifying the position this offseason. JuJu Smith-Schuster is a free agent after garnering 78 catches for 933 yards on a one-year deal. The depth chart features several talented question marks in Mecole Hardman, Kadarius Toney, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

Adding Hopkins could be great news for Kansas City, but terrible for all opposing defenses.

Do we want a high priced prima donna?

It probably is a priority now that a good majority of free agency is over. I just think that Jones might be waiting on another DT's contract. There's a top one but I can't remember for the life of me who it is right now.

I think they know the number at this point right? I mean, either he's the highest paid DT outside of Donald or you trade him.

And that could be what's going on right now. They could be figuring out what number they're comfortable at below Donald...or they're trying to figure out if they can find a number they both agree on.

However, he's that dude. he's kind of the best of Sammy Watkins in terms of his ability to be a YAC monster. Almost Jerry Rice-esque ability to beat press man as well as find the soft spots in zones, and make catches under duress, but with Stefon Diggs' huge catch radius and elite hands. He's also one of the best situational receivers, similar to Travis, in his ability to see the coverage and make route adjustments on the fly; he can play beyond the Xs and Os.

Even at 30, you're kind of getting the 'lite' versions of those receivers physically, but with those ridiculous hands.
Damn I just want a stud WR just for one year so we can get rid of the overplayed myth that mahomes should carry this entire offense on his back. Im meh only because of the injury risk and trade comp but selfishly I just want that idea to be done away with once and for all. A lot of what you said is why I also prefer him to OBJ. He fits so much of what our offense is currently trying to do and we know mahomes hates it when WRs don’t hit their spots.

I feel like he could be a Randy moss kind of guy. All the years he wasted with bad QBs. Proved in his 30s how he could cook with a real qb.

With the little snippet from James on the matter, I don't think it's going well. I can't blame Chris for not wanting to take less and I can't blame the Chiefs for not wanting to just completely blow it out.

Yeah, not sure where him being traded came from, but didn't he say he was going to be a Chief for life? Seems to be an odd thing to say unless he knew something we didn't.

It's a tough one, Jones is about to be 30 so then you straddle on paying him for what he use to be instead of what he is.

I agree and how many took the "Chief for Life" meaning he will get something worked out...You can easily say this was a public frustration post about his contract not going well. Maybe Veach offering a short term deal and CJ wants a 5-6 year deal to finish out his career?

I mean CJ has what MAYBE 5 years left? Would it really surprise anyone IF CJ is asking for Donald money that Veach trades him for ton of picks/players?

Agreed. But to be completely fair Hopkins would probably be >than any drafted WR in the last ten drafts. This draft is just not loaded with that many true 'blue chip' WRs, certainly far less than last year's draft, according to every analyst I've read recently.
