I've always been sort of intrigued by the what-if of not firing Herm Edwards and seeing where things went with Thigpen and the pistol. I'm not saying it would have been good but I don't think it would have been worse than where we ended up with Cassel and Pioli.

I was going to ASU at the time and was at that game. We were hammered and I just remember my buddy saying...is that BONER all alone out there?!?

That was the year Cardinals fans were on the Buddy Ryan bandwagon and it all ended up crashing and burning with him leaving the field early against the Cowboys and getting fired.

That Bono run was the beginning of the end for Buddy.

That's great trivia. They should have done a Quantum Leap episode about this.

And yeah, I kind of thought that Thigpen should've had more of a chance than he did. He was unorthodox, but seemed more effective than others he was competiing against.

This reminds me that the Chiefs have some surprising current record holders for various team records. You’d think that these records would have fallen to Mahomes, Tyreek, Kelce, etc. by now.

Elvis Grbac still has the single game passing yards record with 503.

Marc Boerigter has the longest reception in franchise history (99 yards).

Bono with the longest QB run in franchise history.

Stephone Paige with the single game receiving yardage record (309 yards).

Did his chief existence somehow get us Andy Reid and eventually pat Mahomes?

A lot of team records are like that.

Shout outs to Paige. That's the 3rd most receiving yards in a game in NFL history.

And obviously Boerigter's record also happens to be tied for 1st in the NFL record books and technically can't be broken.

Right. I'm pretty sure the Broncos single passing game record is held by the immortal Bubby Brister. Or it at least was for a good chunk of time.

At least initially, anyway.

That was the season gailey kinda rebuilt that pistol offense on the fly, right?

Yeah, they were a fairly entertaining and likable disaster. Then the Patriot Way happened.

I looked it up. You're close - the record is held by Jake Plummer. Here are the broncos' top ten performances of al time.

1 Jake Plummer 499
2 Peyton Manning 479
3 Kyle Orton 476
4 Gus Frerotte 462
5 Peyton Manning 462
6 Jay Cutler 447
7 Frank Tripucka 447
8 Charley Johnson 445
9 Peyton Manning 438
10 john elway 432

I find it hilarious that broncos fans think that elway was good. We would expect Manning to have a higher peak since Manning was actually a good quarterback. But consider that Plummer, Orton, Frerotte, Cutler, Tripucka, and Johnson all had higher peaks than elway.

Haha. I was confusing Brister having the longest TD run by a QB in Broncos history (until Tebow beat it) with the best passing day. I knew he had some sort of weird record.

That has to be the longest time wise it ever took any pro athlete to run 76 yards. It is almost like watching slow motion.
