So what's Seattle's situation? Paging Joe Seahawk.

They have a Super Bowl QB and the best corner in the league still playing for pennies on the dollar.

They have to give them new contracts, right? Otherwise you risk a holdout by two players who were instrumental in winning you a freaking Super Bowl.

If/when those contracts happen, who're the likely cap casualties?

Even with a super bowl ring, will Pete Carrol still look clueless on the sideline?

This was just Wilson's second year, so he should have another couple of years on the rookie contract if it was the standard 4 year deal.

Sherman probably still has a year left on his deal but it's coming up a year earlier than Wilson IIRC.

Moral of the story: When your top players are a 3rd round pick and a 5th round pick, awesome job, you've probably still got another year or two before they need to get paid, so you can sign short term mercenaries in free agency to compliment the team.

Considering also that they are overpaying guys like Sidney Rice, as soon as they dump him, that gives them the room to pay that same money to someone whose contract is coming up and actually deserves to take up that cap space. It's probably better to overpay Harvin right now so that in 2 years his number can come down and someone else can get paid...

The Seahawks can't do anything with Wilson until the end of the 2014 regular season as per the NFL's CBA. Earl Thomas & Richard Sherman are the big two who now can negotiate new deals.

I wouldn't be surprised if Sherman holds out. He has proven to be a top-tier CB for 2 years. Would follow the same timeline as Revis with the NYJ.

Revis - drafted in 2007, held out before 2010 season
Sherman - drafted 2011, coming up on 2014 season

If you were brought on as a pig masturbator, and after one year, you're the best pig masturbator in the state, would you still want to masturbate pigs for pennies on the dollar if you had the power the change that?
