How does Dwayne Bowe rank among the elite WR's?

Sorry, didn't want this getting overlooked in the other thread. Then again, people will probably ignore it anyway - I know some of you will appreciate this.

I keep seeing people say that Dwayne Bowe isn't an elite WR. So I decided to do some research to see how he matches up statistically over his 5 years in the league.

What I found, is that statistically, Bowe is the 10th best WR of the last 5 years.

I found 9 other WR's that either had better yardage totals, better TD numbers or both. He was 10th in yardage, tied for 6th in TD's.

Here's the list. (Yardage/TD's) Bolded players have fewer or same TD's as Bowe.

Larry Fitzgerald - 6480/49

Roddy White - 6422/42

Reggie Wayne - 6234/36

Wes Welker - 6105/31

Calvin Johnson - 5872/49

Andre Johnson - 5703/35

Greg Jennings - 5539/46

Steve Smith - 5353/29

Marques Colston - 5202/40

Dwayne Bowe - 4927/36

Personally, I think that's impressive on its own.

Especially when you consider the only guy on this list who is younger is Megatron. I'd be curious to see how he matches up to the same players during each of their first 5 seasons.

Anyway, when you compare Bowe's number's to the #1 yardage and #1 TD's - he's not nearly as far off as it seems.

It comes down to 19.41 yard a game, and .16 TD's per game.

Factor in that Bowe is missing something the other 9 have - solid QB play.

After looking at this, its hard for me to say Dwayne Bowe is NOT an elite WR, considering how his numbers match up to the "elite" and never having the benefit of decent QB play.

I'm pretty confident in saying that with solid QB play, Bowe would easily make up 19.41 yards and .16 TD's a game.

Like him or not, he's an elite WR - and has shown it over his 5 years in the league.

Dude deserved elite money.

Or, tl;dr - **** him.

Tell me why that's wrong. Anyone.
Because, according to a lot of measurements, what he did in 2011 was better. He had a higher PFF rating, a greater catch percentage, and suffered through worse QB play and a worse surrounding cast. Yet he still had almost 1200 yards.

I'd say he's had two seasons, 2010 and 2011, where he's definitely been an elite receiver.

And I think you can say the SAME thing about Calvin Johnson: 2011 and 2010.

The whole reason Bowe is getting paid is the last two years. In two years: #6 in yards, #2 in TDs.

Pretty cut and dry to me.

My own personal opinion is that you're looking at it from a fantasy football owner's perception. He hasn't consistantly produced the 15+ TD, 1600+ yard season, therefore he isn't "elite".

Bowe has done every single thing asked of him in every single shitty situation. What more has the guy got to do to reach "elite"? He simply will not put up monster numbers with the bums we've run out at QB here.

And before someone brings up TD production, these guys all had elite seasons last year:

Larry Fitzgerald, Steve Smith, Roddy White.

They had 8, 7 and 8 TD.

Bowe had 5, and dropped two more.

If you're NOT going to categorize what Bowe did in 2011 as elite, you're telling me it was because of two dropped passes?

Really?

AND, FYI, Bowe was about half a yard and a knee from a TD against the Raiders, that was called back after review.

If you don't think what Bowe did last year was on par with "elite" you're splitting a lot of hairs IMO.

Tony Gonzalez was "elite" in 2007.

He had 5 TD.

But as the stats show, he's put up solid, consistent numbers.

People are acting as if his place among WR's -when comparing the 1st five years of a career, or even just the last five years period - is some sort of accident.

And that's ignoring the QB play completely.

Again, no one has made more chicken salad out of more chicken shit than Bowe.

White has been targeted a lot more than Bowe, and has a lower drop rate. If Bowe had the ball come his way as often as White does, he would probably produce as well as, but probably better than White. Probably better because of the QB he has throwing to him.

Bowe 2010 - 10.00
White 2010 - 7.26

Bowe 2011 - 10.99
White 2011 - 13.04

Pretty freaking close, and Bowe was better in 2011.

You're a ****ing tard. The only point I have argued against Bowe is that he isn't Fitz/Megatron good. He is not top 3. I then argued as to why. He is in the next tier though.

Man, you wanna hear a statistic that really puts 2011 vs 2010 into perspective?

"Catchable" passes thrown to Dwayne Bowe:

2010 - 80 - 72 REC
2011 - 91 - 81 REC

Devils advocate...

According to the actual players in the NFL...

Bowe isn't even one of the top 100 players in the league.

Wes Welker is.

And the Patriot Way ain't paying him, neither.

Players are stupid.

There are several that should be on the list.

It's also very telling that Albert fired his agent recently.

The same agent that represents Bowe.

Must have thought/heard that he didn't fulfill his duties as well as expected.
