The Greatest Movie Franchises of All Time - Southern Division Round 1

Links to preceding threads:

You can view the entire tournament bracket here as we go along, but here's the Southern division:

Please vote for the franchise in each pair that you feel is most deserving of being in consideration for the Greatest Movie Franchise of All Time. I'll put one of these up every day or two as we go along. So vote!

Possible Concerns and Responses:
  1. A franchise I like isn't on the list! Too bad. Nominations are closed. This is just a fun offseason diversion, but feel free to complain in the thread if it will make you feel better.
  2. There's something on the list that I don't even think is a franchise! Don't vote for it.
  3. There's something on the list that I don't recognize. Yeah, there are a few that I don't recognize either. If you feel generous, look it up and determine if you think it's worthy. Or just don't vote for it. Either option is allowed.
  4. The seeding seems weird (or there's something I have no idea how it got in there). The seeding is based on total estimated tickets from Box Office Mojo, but some older franchises were randomly seeded since we don't have any data available about their ticket sales. Again, if you don't feel something is deserving, don't vote for it!

Yeah, I can't disagree. That said, I'm excited to see how the matchup between Mission: Impossible and Austin Powers goes. It's almost parody vs. original (though AP is probably closer to Bond than MI).

Does chalk mean higher seeds? Because I voted almost the exact opposite. Pretty much exclusively underdogs for this heat.

I'm one of the few people in this world who thinks Star Wars absolutely sucks. I couldn't even stomach finishing the three that came out in the late '90's/early '00's.

Hit me with those thumbs downs, folks.

Agreed and this region has IMO the strongest contender to win so it can't be 100% dismissed.

The trouble with some of these, is if you are voting on the whole series, then some of the later films are really killing their early films. Transformers is a great example of this. Had they stopped at 3, it would have a shot. The last few films were absolute garbage IMHO, thus devaluing the entire series.

We'll see how it goes once we get closer to the end, but I personally wonder if Star Wars is going to have that happen to them. It's clearly a strong contender to win it all, and I think it would have if they'd stopped after three. After the prequels, though...

Transformers 1, Bumblebee, and Transformers (86) were the only good ones. The rest were garbage.

Weak ass bracket.

That being said, I love the Naked Gun series. Hilarious stuff.

I’m as big a Tarantino fan as you’ll find and even I voted for Star Wars. One, it’s Star Wars. Secondly, Kill Bill isn’t a movie franchise. It’s a singular movie split into two parts.
