The Greatest Movie Franchises of All Time - Southern Division Round 1

Links to preceding threads:

You can view the entire tournament bracket here as we go along, but here's the Southern division:

Please vote for the franchise in each pair that you feel is most deserving of being in consideration for the Greatest Movie Franchise of All Time. I'll put one of these up every day or two as we go along. So vote!

Possible Concerns and Responses:
  1. A franchise I like isn't on the list! Too bad. Nominations are closed. This is just a fun offseason diversion, but feel free to complain in the thread if it will make you feel better.
  2. There's something on the list that I don't even think is a franchise! Don't vote for it.
  3. There's something on the list that I don't recognize. Yeah, there are a few that I don't recognize either. If you feel generous, look it up and determine if you think it's worthy. Or just don't vote for it. Either option is allowed.
  4. The seeding seems weird (or there's something I have no idea how it got in there). The seeding is based on total estimated tickets from Box Office Mojo, but some older franchises were randomly seeded since we don't have any data available about their ticket sales. Again, if you don't feel something is deserving, don't vote for it!

Some tough heats in this one. Superman or American Pie and Austin Powers or Mission: Impossible.

The comic book nerd in me wants to go with Supes but the Reeves flicks were before my time and Return of Superman and Man of a Steel just aren't that good, whereas the Pie movies were bullshit but I grew up on them. Some decent coming-of-age comedy.

Austin Powers are also bullshit comedy but ****ing hilarious. M: I clearly has some good movies. They've got really unique stunts and scenes that stick out but the overall plots aren't memorable for me. I remember one movie was about something called the anti-God or something. Idk.

Transformers 1, Bumblebee, and Transformers (86) were the only good ones. The rest were garbage.

I think your second part is splitting hairs, but I agree with the first. Star Wars is the only franchise that can give Bond a run for its money in this thing, IMO.

At most, KB is just two movies which eliminates it from my criteria of a franchise(I realize my criteria is irrelevant to anyone but me however, as such I wouldn’t vote for KB versus any of these)

Does chalk mean higher seeds? Because I voted almost the exact opposite. Pretty much exclusively underdogs for this heat.

I'm one of the few people in this world who thinks Star Wars absolutely sucks. I couldn't even stomach finishing the three that came out in the late '90's/early '00's.

Hit me with those thumbs downs, folks.

I think most people agree with you on episodes 1-3. They were terrible. The original trilogy has more than enough juice to win this whole thing, though. Plus there are a few people like me who are loving the current films.

I found the first three barely tolerable. Like I said, though, I fully understand I'm in the minority there.

Nah, I'm not vested enough in any of these to actually fight about it.

Yes. Chalk means higher seeds.

Yeah, I stopped watching after the fifth movie. It was so boring I couldn't stand it.

But in a tournament like this, I give the good movies more weight than the bad movies. The badness of the fourth and fifth movies take off some points, but the goodness of the first three are worth far more points.

Going back to something I mentioned in the first heat, I've decided that my voting will be based on the franchise that I'd regret missing the most if it never existed, and that rule heavily weights toward franchises that had the highest high points, versus the franchises with the highest floor.
