Scott Wright's Top 32

Scott Wright's Top 32 Prospects for the 2009 NFL Draft

1. Matthew Stafford QB Georgia
Franchise signal caller with one of the strongest arms in football.

2. Aaron Curry OLB Wake Forest
Playmaker at the linebacker position with terrific size and speed.

3. Eugene Monroe OT Virginia
Follows Ferguson and Albert as the Cavs next great LT prospect.

4. Malcolm Jenkins CB Ohio St.
Prototypical size and speed but will also hit and support the run.

5. Andre Smith OT Alabama
Very athletic and can be dominant but has some question marks.

6. Chris Wells RB Ohio St.
Big (6-1, 237), bruising runner with the ability to be a workhorse.

7. Michael Crabtree WR Texas Tech
Prolific college pass catcher with all the tools except elite speed.

8. Mark Sanchez QB USC
Only started for one year but is more talented than Matt Leinart.

9. Jeremy Maclin WR Missouri
A explosive playmaker as a pass catcher, runner and return man.

10. Michael Oher OT Ole Miss
Terrific size along with great athleticism, quickness and strength.

11. Jason Smith OT Baylor
Athletic former tight end with the tools to protect the blind side.

12. Brian Orakpo DE Texas
Workout Warrior who could be a 4-3 DE or a 3-4 OLB in the pros.

13. Vontae Davis CB Illinois
Physical tools are first-rate but intangibles are a question mark.

14. Rey Maualuga ILB USC
Big, tough, nasty middle linebacker who can really lay the lumber.

15. James Laurinaitis ILB Ohio St.
Super instinctive and plays both the run and the pass effectively.

16. Knowshon Moreno RB Georgia
Average measurables but fantastic vision, patience and instincts.

17. Everette Brown DE Florida St.
Explosive pass rusher whose optimal fit may come as a 3-4 OLB.

18. Percy Harvin WR Florida
Undoubtedly a Top 10 talent but durability issues are a concern.

19. Brandon Pettigrew TE Oklahoma St.
Timed speed's just average but an excellent all-around tight end.

20. Tyson Jackson DE L.S.U.
Isn't an elite pass rusher but will be a perfect fit in a 3-4 scheme.

21. B.J. Raji DT Boston College
Massive, powerful run-stuffer who will excel as a 3-4 nose tackle.

22. William Moore S Missouri
Big and extremely physical but also a ballhawk in the secondary.

23. LeSean McCoy RB Pittsburgh
Compact, productive runner with a burst who hits the hole hard.

24. Darrius Heyward-Bey WR Maryland
Not many can match his amazing combination of size and speed.

25. Aaron Maybin DE Penn St.
Top pass rusher but vastly undersized and isn't ready physically.

26. D.J. Moore CB Vanderbilt
Athletic playmaker in the secondary and also a good return man.

27. Peria Jerry DT Ole Miss
Penetrator with top speed / quickness and outstanding strength.

28. Clint Sintim OLB Virginia
Big hitter who can rush the quarterback and drop into coverage.

29. Josh Freeman QB Kansas St.
Could move way up due to his size (6-6, 250) and arm strength.

30. Brandon LaFell WR L.S.U.
Another big, talented Tiger wideout in the mold of Dwayne Bowe.

31. Brian Cushing OLB USC
Tough, versatile 'backer but has really struggled to stay healthy.

32. Eben Britton OT Arizona
Emerging player who is effective as both a pass and run blocker.

it'd be interesting (read: AWESOME) if either johnson (out of ga tech), heyward-bey, or lesean mccoy fell to the second round--I'd jump up and down if we got ANY of these three in the second round.

he has a bigger arm than leinart did, he isn't restricted to being good in pretty much only one offense (WCO), he has more mobility, and he isn't a lefty.

it's a joke that he only started one year, though--he shoulda started last year over JD booty. sanchez has LOADS of talent.

I don't even doubt it. I'm just surprised that Leinert has fallen so far, so fast. Hopefully his daddy still has plenty of money, Matty may need some one of these days.

heh, I doubt that leinart has to work a day in his life from this point on--even IF he blows through his signing bonus money, there are USC boosters (with DEEEEEEEP pockets) who would fall over themselves to give him a six figure income to just sit there and talk football with them.

****, he could do autograph signings around the country at card shows and sign 'heisman winner' and make a better living than 99% of the people on this board. he's set for life just by being matt leinart.

Matt Stafford in the first and Michael Johnson in the second would be drool worthy.

Others have said the same.

I think that Michael Johnson has a huge upside, and assuming we get a real coach, finally, he could be a beast.

As it seems more and more likely that we switch the the 3-4, college personnel really seems to favor it.

Turk is really the only defender in the front seven who's halfway fit for this defense, though. Other than QB in the 1st, the rest of the draft will need to be defense, defense, defense.
