Oh Beto!

Details about the time Robert "Beto" OíRourke, the Democrat Senate candidate in Texas, was driving drunk, caused an accident, and tried to flee the scene. That card.

Quote:

1998 Police Report: Witness Claimed Beto OíRourke Tried To Leave The Scene Of His DWI Accident

The DWI was common knowledge already but his alleged attempt to flee the scene was not.

This would be a hugely damaging hit on the leftís new heartthrob if not for the fact that OíRourkeís opponent happens to be the Zodiac whose father conspired to assassinate JFK.

Seriously, though, you know how Beto is forever being compared to the Kennedys? Turns out theyíre more alike than anyone knew.

A Texas Department of Public Safety report on the incident was based on a motoristís description of OíRourkeís dark-colored Volvo passing him quickly about 3 a.m. on I-10. The Anthony Police Department and DPS reports differ as to whether OíRourke was heading east or west on the interstate, but both agree that he struck a truck going in the same direction and crossed a grassy median into the opposite lanes.

Police said OíRourke then attempted to leave the scene but was stopped by the same motorist he had just passed. The unidentified motorist ďthen turned on his overhead lights to warn oncoming traffic and to try to get the defendant (OíRourke) to stop,Ē the report says.

The DPS report described OíRourke as having ďglossyĒ eyes, slurred speech, smelling of liquor, and almost falling to the ground as he got out of his car.

He blew in the range of .135 on the police breathalyzer when the stateís legal limit was .08. He was hauled in for DWI ó but charges were dismissed when he completed a ďdiversion programĒ approved by the court. It helps to have a dad who was a judge at the time in El Paso, I guess

...

He told the NYT recently that he has no desire to be president, but thatís what they all say when theyíre trying to climb the ladder to statewide office. If it doesnít work out in Texas, he can always move to Massachusetts, start drunk-driving again, and be a senator there for the next 75 years.

Serious question.

Am Liberal, believe that this economic momentum started under Barry.

Does any conservative have any data that shows Trumpís policies having s positive impact on the economy AFTER Obama left office? So far, all charts Iíve seen shows this resurgence starting in the Obama years.

Iím happy to be proven wrong on this front. In fact, Iíd rather be proven wrong here than at the dinner table with my in-laws, for instance.

A couple of things...

Google "quantitative easing" and the impact that had on our economy during Obama's administration. Despite that Obama still achieved only 1.5% GDP growth in his last year and was the only President in history not to achieve 3% growth in any 4 or 8 year term. This despite a devastated base after 2009. Since Trump cut regulations and tax cuts were passed for corporations, unemployment is down, participation in the labor force is up as well. Consumer confidence is very high and we have a rolling 12 months GDP above 3% and on pace to have the first calendar GDP above 3% in the last decade. This despite Quantitative Easing going away and the 10 year treasury rising by over 125 basis points since Trump was elected. You can hate Trump, but to say he hasn't improved the economy and jobs over Obama is intellectually dishonest, especially when we were told a 2% GDP was the new norm and artificially low interest rates have been discontinued. It is foolish to think this would be happening if it weren't for the changes in policy.

That's fine, but you have to credit the GOP congress too if you wanna go down that road

I wholly appreciate this response. I can assure you that my goal wasnít an attempt at intellectual dishonesty, but rather, from the standpoint of someone ignorant of macro economics outside of Econ 104 and looking to get a deeper understanding of a conservative talking point that will likely be Trumpís strongest issue come re-election time. I truly do appreciate you taking the time to articulate this issue and will likely be back for more questions in the near future.

And this is how civil discourse occurs.

I’m interested in the GDP growth during the first 4 and 8 8 years of FDR’s administration. As far as the initial starting condition, this would be the closest comparison, although FDR clearly had a worse starting condition.

I would also point out that the current economic expansion began in ‘09. Trump has reined over less than 1/4 of that expansion.

Trump has had a positive impact on the short term economy. The growth rate has been higher during Trump’s reign than during the Obama administration. He has done this on the backs of our children and grandchildren in the context of national debt and degradation of the environment. People can disagree on whether it is okay to profit by imposing hardships to future generations.

Some kind of fiscal responsibility was one of the most valid points of Republicans. It is a damn shame they have decided that isn’t important in the age of Trump and none of the Republican voters are holding them accountable.

Your concern trolling is weak as ****, and Republicans shitcanned any real notion of fiscal responsibility long before Trump arrived on the scene.
