Problem is, they want to keep high price points because that's what drives their killer profits and will allow them to easily raise prices in the future. Why cheapen your product by reducing prices if people are willing to hand over fist pay high prices for macbook airs, pros, imacs, ipads, there is absolutely no reason to lower prices. Their brand, right now, just flat out prints $$$.

I'm guessing they're using an economic model that takes into account the loss of those who perceive it to be a superior product due to pricing versus those that just want the cheapest option.

I think i sense what Guru is trying to say here. There definately is a certain sense of "Elitism" with Apple worshipers. Whether or not thats earned is up for debate. Whatever the case, theres a clearly a market for Apple products and more "open" products from rival manufactureres as well. I own both types of products and they both serve different needs.

I think it's somewhat that not everyone can afford one.

All tablets are luxury items. For me it isn't about affording it. It's about it being worth the money.

Guru, just do what I did. Use Craigslist. I found a 64g wifi, iPad1 for 200. Original receipt and all that. Like you, I simply refuse to pay apple's price. Deals are there to be had. You just have to wait for the right deal/situation.

That is a heck of a price! If you don't mind the secondary market, this is the way to go.
