Chiefs Offseason Planet Evaluation: Bryan Witzmann

Next player coming in for his annual review is LG Bryan Witzmann.

Active for 16 games, made 13 starts.

Poll coming faster than Triplette can swing a game's momentum with a holding call.

You think someone would take a trade for Morse? Or you keep for him depth behind Fulton for the season then wait for him to sign somewhere else and maybe reap a 4th or 5th round comp pick...

This dude sucked. The team couldn't overcome his shitty play. He spent more time running after blocks than holding them. Dude got beat like Clays uvula, often...

He was depth that was forced to start 13 games. Used in his role as occasionally used depth I have no problem with his play, but as a starter he's not there yet. I think he can still improve but don't see a ceiling above "serviceable" or a C to C+.

Gave him a D. Performed as expected. Needs a MUCH smaller role moving forward. Worth a 6th at best. **** that guy. He was a significant hindrance to the offense.

I gave him a C grade. He should only be a backup but was forced into more playing time because of injuries. He was serviceable at some points and terrible at others but he was also playing a lot more than he should have. He'll always be at JAG level or worse. I'll take that Mr. Pibb please.

What? He was the Week 1 starter. Ehinger wasn't any where near ready to play due to his ACL surgery nine months earlier.

Witzmann sucked ass, plain and simple. If he wasn't playing like a turnstile, he was receiving False Start and/or Holding Penalties.

Defending him is silly.

He seems to be our new Mr. Penalty. Whenever he plays he gets at least 2 penalties. C-

Start Fulton at center and move Morse to LG.

Change the blocking assignments so that the guards pull more than the center.

Fulton is a tank and anchor, not a runner

I seriously wonder of Ehinger was held back because of the post knee surgery problems a couple others on the team have had.

Ehinger had surgery in November 2016. It's at least a one year recovery time, so he was pretty much on schedule.

He played 100% of the offensive snap counts against Denver and there were no problems or issues reported.

My surprising observation is that so many people thought he performed as expected. I can see that if you view him as a starter, but if you told me at the start of training camp that Witzmann would be a 13-game starter, I would've been quite surprised. From that standpoint, he greatly exceeded my expectations for him this year. I'd still target LG for an upgrade if possible, but Witzmann exceeded my expectations for him this year.
