Clayton: Draft Picks Can Be Traded for HCs

On Mike-and-Mike this morning. Despite the protests and rants of some here, according to the "professor," CP is trying to work out draft picks to be awarded to the Jets for Edwards. Apparently the Gruden rule only applies to Coordinators and Assistant Coaches, according to an NFL spokesmen at a news conference yesterday. So what's Carl gonna give away this time?

If he wants to watch his second and third choices for the job sign elsewhere, and then still have the Edwards thing not happen, I suppose it's an option.

According to Clayton's web-blog, "....because of tampering rules, Edwards might have to work out a trade compensation arrangement with the Jets"

My GOD CP is dumb, If he want Edwards so bad, give the Reigns to Saunders for two years and then go get his man.

Giving away draft picks for a coach is just plain dumb. The picks we give away for Herm could be very important for the future of this team.

I would luv to kick CP square in the balls!

There's no way anyone is giving up a first rounder for Herm Edwards.

I could see Carl doing a similar compensation thing to what he gave for Vermeil though, since drafting in the 20th position, we don't really have a high pick in any round this year. And frankly getting a good HC is probably more important than drafting the next Kris Wilson or Mike Cloud. I would normally be against trading that pick if I didn't feel there was a 90% chance of Carl screwing it up.

That being said, Edwards is not my first choice and I really don't think Carl should be hiring his buddies in the first place...

Good point. If Jets agree to compensation, it's likely less than Tags would award given his woody for the Chiefs.

Why the **** would they call it the "Gruden" rule if it only applies to assistants and coordinators?

Gruden was HEAD COACH of the Raiders and became HEAD COACH of the Bucs.

I agree. But that's what Clayton said this morning. FTR, I think it was the St. Petersburg paper that called it the Gruden Rule.
