30 people injured at new Busch Stadium during severe storm

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2524580

Wow. I happened to catch this as it happened on the radio, I didn't realize it was quite this bad. A violent storm hit St. Louis during the Cards game tonight, I guess it had wind gusts over 80 mph. The Cards announcers said it was one of the worst storms they'd ever witnessed at a game, I guess they weren't exaggerating. 30 people were injured, 5 hospitalized. The storm blew out press box windows, overturned things, and lifted the tarp off the field and actually ripped it apart. Probably amazing we don't see more things like this in the midwest during storm season.

That story brought back memories of a certain Sunday night game at Arrowhead vs. Seattle

I heard it had torn part of the roof off of the airport as well up there. Lovely thought is that it's headed this way. Oh joy.

Haha... that's the part that gets me. I don't have any experience with MLB tarp, but I don't imagine it's very lightweight. Plus it was raining on top of it, and the wind still just picked it up and shredded it. That's pretty impressive.

Well, the winds came and went here. It was lightning and thundering a little, but that's over. Someone's balcony storage door is open and banging against the railing now though. I was courtious to make sure it wasn't mine.

I hadn't heard about the airport, but I believe it. I looked out my window (I'm just about five miles northeast of the airport) and saw trees and tree limbs flying past my window, hitting cars, and it was just insane. My cats were going nuts! We lost power at about 6:00 pm or a few minutes after, and only got it turned back on about half an hour ago. This time of year, blackouts really suck! I don't know if it got quite up to "microburst" levels, but it was awfully close. I don't know if it headed toward Springfield or not, but during the worst of it here, the winds were blowing from west to east, so unless it changed directions (entirely possible), it was moving away from you rather than toward.

Perhaps the strangest thing was, it wasn't even in the forecast! This thing just came out of nowhere. Half an earlier, it was literally blue skies (I had to close my blinds because of the glare from the sun on my tv screen). Then half an hour later, I hear a crash, look out, and the sky is almost black (have you heard writers talk about the sky "boiling?" Well, that's what it was doing), and stuff is just flying everywhere! Somebody told me Hazelwood (where I'm at) was almost the epicenter, so to speak.

There were a few smaller cells from that storm down this way (I believe), and heading west. The most we got was some slightly strong wind gusts and a little lightning/thunder. It never even rained. Glad you and your cats are alright.

Hmm...., a few days ago, some people had to be treated for heat-related injuries at Busch.

2 bad things that happened in a week. Strange.
