Florida QB John Brantley Watching Tape Of Chiefs QB Matt Cassel

Kansas City Chiefs QB Matt Cassel's 2010 season will serve as a teaching tool for at least one young quarterback: John Brantley. The Florida quarterback has spent the spring learning the playbook of Charlie Weis, who was the offensive coordinator for the Chiefs last year, and holds the same position with the Gators this year.

"All throughout spring ball we've watched tape of Matt Cassel and the Kansas City Chiefs trying to get a feel for what they did and what they were able to accomplish," Brantley said Monday on ESPN's College Football Live. "All summer I'm going to be in that film room watching a lot of them and a lot of us trying to learn some more about this offense."

Brantley's career under Weis started off a bit slow as he completed just 4-of-14 passes for 45 yards in his spring debut. But that's OK, if history is any indication. Cassel had a pretty miserable preseason for the Chiefs but rebounded to put together a Pro Bowl season.

"It's been awesome," Brantley said of Weis. "Coach Weis, he's a great guy and a great coach. You look at his track record and see how well he's done throughout his career. Just learning from him is an awesome opportunity for me. I'm just trying to take it all in and learn as much as I can."

Brantley may be someone to keep an eye on in the 2012 NFL draft. He'll have some familiarity with the Chiefs offense.

JB's been a huge disappointment. If Weis doesn't get him looking better by game 3 people will be shouting for Driskel.

Watching Brantley in the Orange and Blue game, I really felt like I was watching Cassel... and not in a good way.
