I think Pioli and Haley, drowning their sorrow with high grade alcohol, were cruisin the Planet yesterday and stumbled upon the pics of Gailey's attire coming to camp last year.

It didn't fit Pioli's vision:
“We’re going to build a big, strong, smart, fast, tough, disciplined, and WELL DRESSED football team and we’re going to do that by going out and finding big, strong, smart, fast, tough, disciplined, WELL DRESSED football players & coaches."

Chan is getting the blame for: a) McIntosh/Goff/Niswanger, b) not being able to get good production out of 3rd string WRs who have been put in with the first team, c) LJ who had been falling from the least bit of contact, d) backup HB's who fumble without contact, e) Tyler Thigpen not being able to hit water while falling out of a boat.

I hope Haley hasn't bitten off more than he can chew.

Quite frankly, I think there was a "gentleman's agreement" to disagree between Pioli and Haley about Gailey in the beginning of Haley's hire. It appears in the beginning that Pioli liked Gailey because he was one of the few kept on after Pioli cleaned house and before Haley was hired. But remember, Haley's veins run deep with "black and gold" in his family genes and maybe Haley was the one hanging on to Gailey? Who really knows?

However I do give alot of credence to the fact that although Thigpen is always responsible for his own play that because he did not play well and a trade opportunity was probably lost that either Haley or Pioli or both felt that Chan did not "showcase" Thigpen to his best ability.

maybe Haley just wanted Chan around long enough so that he could handle more head coaching duties. Now that he has gotten his feet wet with all the administrative stuff, he’s ready to go back to calling plays.

Haley is probably also extremely critical of offensive coordinators. I can see not taking much to set him off in a “you are a loser, I could do better than you, blindfolded, the day after a stroke” rant.

Maybe they will bring in DV to coach the Offense.

nychief 08-31-2009 10:43 AM

this is about play calling. If you listen to Haley post game - you can hear that he was frustrated with the play calling in the first half... terms like "we got away from the ground" etc... I think Haley just decided to call the plays himself and let Chan go get another gig.

Beating the dead horse here, but still.

Was Gailey fired because he passed too much or too little or because he was a bad QB coach or something else?

My guess is that Haley transitions Sirianni into OC kinda like Belichick with Josh McDaniels (given that Sirianni and and Haley were with the offense at practice).

One must wonder if Chan said the OL was "OK" and Pioli and Haley just "trusted" that without watching tape of last year...
