The Royals are going to pay for Moore's drafting philosophy for awhile, you can't just flip a switch with something like that.

It's drafting AND development.

Neither one is a super quick fix.

They're also 4.5 years into their regime change, rather than six months.

What did 2019 look like for Baltimore? (They lost 108 games). Then they were on pace for 97 in 20. And lost 110 in 21.

They changed everything long before the Royals did and I can argue the Royals keeping Piccollo instead of going outside isn't a full change which could easily stunt the process.

Prison Bitch 04-17-2023 01:24 PM

Yeah I won’t agree we had a “regime change” when piccolo is the GM

That's a fair critique, and if Picollo doesn't make things work long-term, one we can criticuze Sherman for.

However, they did recycle a good portion of the development staff. Not sure on scouting.

Zumwalt and co. staying is good. They've been doing good work. I think some of the changes made on the pitching side are bearing fruit, at least early.

As cited, Bubic and Keller have expanded their arsenals in ways the previous staff was resistant to do, and it has paid off. In the minors, not a lot to mention yet, but Alec Marsh has looked strong for NWA (with the walks down. Encouraging).

There's room for some optimism. Especially if you like Maikel Garcia, Nick Loftin, and Tucker Bradley.

If cream rises to the top, then sludge sinks to the bottom. 5. Kansas City Royals (4-12)

The Good: A bunch of things, believe it or not. Vinnie Pasquantino has doubled down on last year's breakout. Bobby Witt Jr. is finally looking like the prince who was promised. A bearded and rejuvenated Aroldis Chapman hasn't allowed a run yet. New pitching coach Brian Sweeney has helped Kris Bubic and Brad Keller revamp their arsenals to great effect. There are some legit bright spots here.

The Bad: KC somehow has the worst K/BB in baseball, even though Pasquantino has more walks than strikeouts. That's because the second half of this lineup is a brutal watch. Michael Massey, Hunter Dozier, Jackie Bradley Jr. and Nate Eaton have gone a combined 15-for-131 with just three extra-base hits. MJ Melendez hasn't settled in at all. The Franmil Reyes reclamation project isn't going to plan. Maybe they can find a way to let Pasquantino and Witt switch off every single at-bat.

The Upshot: There’s actually a lot to like about the Royals, especially if the strides in the rotation prove to be real. But the bottom of the lineup is just so outrageously dreadful that a legitimately encouraging display by Kansas City’s arms might not lead to many wins.

GloryDayz 04-17-2023 03:37 PM

That was very kind of them.

Yeah, that's not true, bud.

I did apologize (and share what details I could) and, when all was said and done, talked about how I needed to change my mindset on DV cases with athletes. That I was going to take it as an opportunity to grow.

Also not quite what my sourcing on things was. So hate me all you want, bro. I'm not crying into my pillow about it.

Take this as a "gotcha, he mad" if you're so inclined. I'll just sign off by pointing out that I'm not the one triggered by something that happened four years ago.

Sigh...but didnt the Royals former owner and/or GM pay him ? Wish they'd just release him or something,he's just not good and its been proven year in/year out. I forget MLB contracts are pretty much guaranteed so i guess thats why he's still on the team.

KCUnited 04-17-2023 05:58 PM

This new regime either needed another look at Dozier or are playing him because they’re paying him

Guess the question is do you want to eat 16 million this year or wait till next when its 9 million.

Or find another team with similar contract with a player not performing and see if they swap. Seeing if a change of scenery does both good.

There's evaluation and being stubborn, no one in their right mind believes Dozier or Bradley deserves any playing time.

I'm going to drop cable, do these guys seem better when listening on the radio? Listening to the announcer use the gambler's fallacy last night made me laugh. Using what logic are they 'due' just because they have hit the ball hard (when they manage to hit it)? I like Rex however I've gotten tired of the stories and polishing of the turd that is the Royals.

I've been watching them since 1969, it was a great 16 years and now we seem to be back in the 1986-2013 days. Some good players and the message is: be thankful you have a team in this small market and fork over the money for a new stadium. Because we are billionaires and you owe us???

You can get 2 tickets to today's game for $12 per ticket on Stubhub. Don't waste money on Royals box office.

I don't live in KC anymore but you used to be able to sit in any unoccupied seat in the stadium except for the bottom like 15 rows.

You can buy seats in the 400 section and sit in the 100 section in most games and nobody will bother you. Just not in the bottom 15 or so rows. There's an aisle way that separates those seats, don't go past that aisle way or you'll get stopped by an usher.

Yeah I’m dropping Bally’s after one month. Royals already shit the bed, no need to watch us get our heads beat in every night. I can’t think of anything less enjoyable than watching bad baseball. Not much to be excited about, Pasquitino and Witt and I guess an old Salvy that should’ve been traded three years ago.. So much fun to watch. I was hoping at least to be somewhat close to in it into may this year but nope, can’t even get out of the gate without face planting.

It's just laughable to be told it's an evaluation year and then we get to watch Hunter Dozier again, dude has been balls for 3 ****in years, what more do you need?

Or Jackie Bradley wtf is that?

Good teams have a mix of young players and vets etc, The Royals chose to be incredibly cheap this offseason when there were some young FA's that could have been core pieces going forward.

The gimmicks are growing tiresome.

Well said. I find the whole evaluation year excuse to be a loser mentality.

What would you have preferred?

Say they went out and spent $90M to get Kodai Senga and $70 to get Chris Bassitt, and then 180M to get Brandon Nimmo for his age 29-36 seasons. You think that's moving the needle this year? Probably makes them a team that tops out with an 80-85 win range. Is that what you're thinking?

My preference is that no later than June 1, we're looking at a lineup that includes Nick Loftin and Maikel Garcia.

If that means Garcia at SS, Witt Jr. at 3B, and Loftin at 2B (where he has been spending most of his time at Omaha this year), or Garcia at 2B, Witt at SS and Loftin at 3B, I don't care.

Personally, I'd give Witt some more time at SS and see how it's looking in a larger sample size. Because if you move him off of it, you need to move him off for good and to the more permanent spot.

I want to see Waters back in CF every day as soon as he's back. Jettison Bradley, Dozier, and Matt Duffy.

I can honestly say Ive watched less Royals this year so far compared to any year in the last couple of decades. I just get too lazy to relog into the Ballys app. Thats enough for me to give up. Hudler being the announcer doesn't help. They need new blood in there.

My problem is they continue to trot out guys like Dozier that are absolute garbage. I had zero expectations of Sherman spending a dime in free agency. Theres ways to build a roster around youth and be competitive, this team is not very competitive as it stands.

So your solution would be...

1) Play Witt at 3B and push Garcia into the big league lineup at SS

?

2) Push Loftin into the majors at 3B wth a grand total of 153 AAA ABs and a .639 OPS in that stint

?

3) Try to convert Meldendez to 3B on the days he's not behind the plate

?

'm ready to never see Dozier play again, but it's also a sunk cost, they're going to stink this year and knew they were going to stink this year, and there wasn't a ready-made replacement ready to beat down the door.

On Bradley Jr, I think they could have just rolled with internal options there to fill tme with Waters on the shelf.

I don't understand Matt Duffy's presence.

How many games have we been held to two or less hits this year? If you’re an opposing pitcher who wants to add a no-hitter to your resume you can’t wait to face the Royals.

Why Not? 04-18-2023 04:42 PM

I’m fairly certain DeGrom would’ve gotten one last night had he not left injured.

De Grom is an injury waiting to happen

Yeah, that's not true, bud.

I did apologize (and share what details I could) and, when all was said and done, talked about how I needed to change my mindset on DV cases with athletes. That I was going to take it as an opportunity to grow.

Also not quite what my sourcing on things was. So hate me all you want, bro. I'm not crying into my pillow about it.

Take this as a "gotcha, he mad" if you're so inclined. I'll just sign off by pointing out that I'm not the one triggered by something that happened four years ago.

Yeah, you were so sure of it 4 years ago. You were just as cock sure that the royals were being soiled by evil evangelist bible beaters in the clubhouse. All because some little spoiled cardinal bitches didn't get the playing time they deserved and spread bullshit out to the press that they weren't getting playing time because of religion. Then those east coast slimy best fans in baseball spread it. You bought it and started the same damn thing here. Every chance you got you to put it out. Funny thing unlike St Lou I didn't see any of the ballplayers run their mouths after the regime was culled.

Hey, we might have a small chance tonight with Eovaldi pitching against us. :hmmm:
