Hopefully, it’s to announce that he’s moving the team to Portland to put us out of our collective misery.

5 bucks says it's just talk about the new stadium.

WhawhaWhat 06-29-2023 09:35 AM

This is probably the most interesting bit from the press conference. Kind of confirms that they aren't seriously considering Clay county.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Sherman says they&#39;re looking more at April for a potential ballot date for a new stadium should they move forward in Jackson County. Have not had as extensive/specific conversations about that with Clay County.</p>&mdash; Anne Rogers (@anne__rogers) <a href="https://twitter.com/anne__rogers/status/1674432514117754880?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">June 29, 2023</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Also this one which indicates that he's not terribly concerned about the team losing.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">John Sherman noted the Cubs, Astros and Orioles all suffered through terrible seasons with young players before turning things around. &quot;Sometimes you&#39;ve got to get worse before you get better. Not that we accept losing&quot;</p>&mdash; Pete Grathoff (@pgrathoff) <a href="https://twitter.com/pgrathoff/status/1674439146956365824?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">June 29, 2023</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Uh the Orioles rebuild started the same time the Royals one did....

Also all of those teams completely rebuilt their entire front offices in the process.

This is year ****ing 6 since dismantling the World Series team, in which they've lost 104, 103, and 97 games in that span, and are on pace to lose well over 100 this year. He wants to act like his elevating JJ late last season restarted the clock to Year 1? **** THAT, MOTHER****ER.

If Sherman wanted to restart the clock to zero, he should've completely cleaned house, top to bottom. He doesn't get that privilege by keeping in place a lot of the folks who were there for the previous 5 seasons.

When they basically changed nothing but elevating the assistant GM and getting a new manager and pitching coach, in no way does that restart the clock. All of the scouts and development people responsible for the product on the field are still here.

Also the real problem is you can't realistically evaluate a player when the entire organization has been with them since draft day, they're attached to player succeeding.

A new front office would likely to be willing to take calls on any player in the organization, these guys likely aren't willing to do that. I said this before and I'll say it again I would talk about Bobby Witt Jr to the Dodgers..

In return I'd want, Andy Pages, Emmett Sheehan, Nick Nastrini and another add like Kyle Hurt.

If they'd part with those guys I'd toss them Witt and Barlow.

Can they just hire Luhnow? Dude knows how to build a team from nothing to WS team.

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss..

**** off John

Mecca 06-29-2023 10:32 AM

-Sherman takes responsibility for the team being in the position that there in right now.

-Ownership is “itching to spend money” in free agency but the nucleus has to be intact.

-Team is playing worse than they had projected.

-Minor league pitching philosophy change has shown some improvement in prospects but they have to keep adding via trades and draft.

-Royals claim to be “waiting” on Jackson and Clay county for the stadium, not the other way around.

-Clay county approached the Royals

-For Jackson county plan will be to extend the current sales tax if it’s approved (300-350 million). State would fund more and the ownership group would invest over a billion.

-Said the data shows favorable support so long as the Chiefs and Royals both ask for a tax extension in Jackson county. Said they were “humbled” and later mentioned the data wasn’t favorable if just the Royals asked for the extension.

-Mentions brining in Manfred to talk about how the K doesn’t meet current mlb standards.

-Sherman wants to speed up the process to avoid another “Oakland situation.”

-Labor Union is going to the media as a negotiation tactic.

-Jackson county site provides vertical growth, Clay county would provide the team with areas to expand outward into.

-Understands the fans frustrations about asking for money when the team is this bad. However said that there thinking about “50 years into the future” and not just what’s happening right now.

He's threatening us with Manfred if he doesn't get his way.

Sassy Squatch 06-29-2023 10:37 AM

Just let the lease run out and tell them to **** off.

They are 100% trying to attach themselves to the Chiefs to get what they want.

Also if you listen to that interview, he literally just got on mic and told people to give him money or this was going to become "an Oakland situation". He is laying the groundwork for moving the team if taxpayers don't build him a new stadium. Then he threatened to bring in Manfred..

This dude may threaten to move the team if his proposal stalls.

Sassy Squatch 06-29-2023 10:45 AM

Oh, I meant tell the to **** off out of KC. Relocate? Gladly. Baseball is a stagnant sport on life support and it's not worth investing hundreds of millions into, especially as a small market.
