I'm glad we waited until two weeks before the season starts to do this.

I wonder how many coordinators have been fired this close to the start of a season.

Chan Gailey Relieved of Duties as Chiefs Offensive Coordinator Aug 31, 2009, 10:30:29 AM The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Monday that Chan Gailey has been relieved of his duties as offensive coordinator. Gailey’s status with the club will be addressed by head coach Todd Haley following the conclusion of today’s practice. Gailey originally joined the Chiefs in 2008. He came to Kansas City after a six-year stint as head coach at Georgia Tech (2002-07). |

Haley should definetly go out there and help block and call plays

This is a really strange move two weeks before the opener. We knew Haley was a hot head I guess, hope it works out for the best. There must have been some real issues between these two over the last couple days.
|
Bring back Solari!!! Solari> Hitler!
|
So now that Herm and Carl are gone, the circus continues...
|
Jesus! Haley thought being a first year HC AND calling the plays would be too much. I guess that changed.

They probably meant to do it back in February but forgot what with all the other things that were going on. |
I bet he initially thought Chan was a Chinese name and he was initially afraid to fire him for legal reasons. Last week in the coach's meeting he finally figured it out.

They want to rebuild this thing their way. Not some shotgun offense, Tyler Thigpen running around, botched play offense. Chan runs an offense they dont want, plain and simple. This certainly cant bode well for Thiggy. I expect the chiefs to try to pick up O'Connell from the waiver wire. I think Pioli likes Cassel, Gutierrez, and then Brokie if he has to, otherwisw, O'connell. Chan may have simply not been in agreement with the head brass. Thus, out a here. That's how I see it.

Not that this will change anything but that opener in Baltimore is going to be U-G-L-Y,maybe Haley should just let the whole 2nd squad start.
|
It's all Mike Cox's fault. Chan's guy just cost us the franchise QB. See ya later Mike.
|
wtf? why would you do this now? especially when Thigpen is about to start?
|
Colquitt's agent should be demanding a raise right now. Strike while the iron is hot.
|
Yeah Carthon sucks too as OC. I hope Haley just takes it over

Shannahan on the way to KC to be coordinator!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gawd, this is out of nowhere like none other. I want to see what types of plays Haley would call, but I don't want him overwhelmed by it. I hope this works out well, I'd like to know if there's a good reason behind this as well.
|
I guess he couldn't make chicken salad out of chickenshit.

Wow.. guess the coaches were fighting for their jobs too. Who decides to fire coaches? Is this all Haley or does it start with Hunt/Pioli?

Another thing this tells me is Croyle could be our starter for the Ravens game. Thigpen heavily relied on Gailey's adapting to his style of play. With Gailey out and Thigpen still struggling under center in dropback plays, it all points to Croyle being our #2 and Thigpen in deep shit.

Wait, wait, I got it. Due to collective bargaining agreement, Chan is not elligible to play and coach at the same time. Chans the new right tackle. You heard it here first.

great. what the **** is going to happen next?

another season where I can't even be sad. It just goes into full on laughter

Officially Official...sort of

Wow, I wasn't expecting to see this today. I don't have an opinion one way or another but I never really was a gailey fan.

Haley is a better OC than Gailey ever was. Good enough? |

Gailey's bio has been ripped from KcChiefs.com like an ailing limb.
|
Holy Crap! We go from a regime that won't fire or get rid of anyone to one that cans everything and anyone. I guess Haley wants to be the new Bill Parcells.
|
hilarious
love the drama and love that we ****ing cut people now instead of coddling them for years |
WOW!
Just wow. Gailey did offset some of Herm's sucktitude, but I don't think he was a miracle worker. I do think that Chan is superior to Haley doing both and Carthon doing...anything. We'll see. I'm not too high on the move. If there were irreconcilable differences, they should have been addressed earlier. Minus a broken jaw (the Faid still crack me up!), I don't really see anything that they couldn't have found earlier. Posted via Mobile Device |

Gailey was acting as the QB coach to, so unless he's being reassigned full time to that role, we need someone to do two jobs now...

Now that I think about it, we should've known. Chan didn't have a Chiefs logo sticker on the side of his head.

...maybe averaging one TD a game wasn't enough? :hmmm:

Well, I was a bit surprised by this one. I thought they were just going to weather the season with staff as-is....but I have to admit, this is kind of awesome. I'm actually impressed that they have the mind to change what isn't working. Is it Chan's fault necessarily? No. Could he possibly help this team more from another position right now? Maybe. But 33 points in 3 games isn't the reason this happened, it's the preseason and the OLine sucks. My guess is they realized that the offense was worse than they thought (specifically the line). And instead of letting it fester, they made a broad stroke move.....I like it.

I'll bet he said see we don't need Cassel we have Capt Thigpen and if you'll just let me put in the pistol we can win!!

Too bad we couldn't pull Chucky out of the MNF booth to be OC.
Damn Haley is one cold blooded mofo and personally, I love it. Posted via Mobile Device |

Well I guess if you are telling the players that they better perform or else, then you have to hold your coaching staff to the same standards...

Firing your OC two weeks before the start of the season when the two apparent candidates for playcalling are Carthon and a rookie head coach, doesn't seem to be the wisest move.
|
Good googely moogely. I'll be interested to hear what Haley has to say about it.

TWO WINS last season, while he coordinated our offense. I'm surprised by the move, but not shocked. I'm glad they aren't going to settle for mediocrity.
