Bono held the door open for me once. I said thanks, he said you're welcome. Does that count?
I had dinner with Corey Feldman and his family in Santa Monica. I'm still decent friends with Ed Asner. Incredible at his craft, and an even better human being. Talked with Sam Brownback a bit. I've met quite a few KS politicians, as it were. That's about it. I've seen way more famous people in person than I've met, of course. Ate a few tables away from Cameron Diaz and an Olsen twin at the same lunch. That was odd. |

I used to go directly from work to the gym, then grab dinner on the way home. Did it for years, especially since there were great places on that corner (Bristol Farms, Baja Fresh, etc.). I always called in my order because these places were always jammed packed. One night, I'm in line for pick up at Baja Fresh (LOVE their Baja Chicken salad). EVERYONE in the ****ing place is staring at ME. I'm dripping in sweat, fully disgusting, with a skullcap that's soaked as well. After about 3 minutes, I begin looking around. Why is everyone staring at ME? I finally turn around and see Cameron Diaz directly behind me in line. Me: I am so sorry! I'm soaking wet and stink from my workout. Cameron: No worries! You should smell ME after I workout! |
Are you still on the same street with Eva Longoria and Michelle Forbes?

I met O.J. Simpson at the premiere of the Phantom Menace back in 1999. We saw the film at the twin towers in Century City. I had a friend buy the tickets in advance, so my wife and I met him and his daughter at the theater. As we're standing in line, there are faux Darth Maul's and faux Obi Wan Kenobi's doing lightsaber battles. The music from the film is blaring in the courtyard. Out of the corner of my eye, I see Robert Shaprio exiting one of the towers. The next I thing we all know is that O.J. Simpson enters the courtyard with his daughter and gives Shapiro a huge hug! I don't know what was more fascinating: The lightsaber battles or Shapiro/Simpson! Remember, this was 1999! Wait: It gets better. So, we're getting close to entering the entrance to the theater, which was long before seat selection was possible with an online purchase (the only way to go, these days). My friend who purchased the tickets saw O.J. and his daughter go to the back of the line and immediately said "Wow, O.J. is in the back!". O.J. must have had superhuman hearing. He immediately walked up to my friend, who was directly in front of me in line and said "Do you mind if I cut inline? It's been a long day with my daughter". My idiot friend said "Yes" and began talking to him about his NFL days. Seriously guys, you can't make this shit up. |

Forgot two:
James Patterson-author of all the Alex Cross novels. He was in my golf foursome at an Oldsmobile Scratch n Scramble golf tournament at the Jersey Shore about 20 years ago. He is a VERY slow golfer and wasn't all that fun to play with due to his pace. His handicap was around a 20 at the time Evil Knievel-reminded when I saw another poster. Met with my Dad in New York at event when I was young |

He keeps a list. When I was a kid, I met then-backup QB Mike Livingston at a car dealership promo. I stood there speechless and agog, amazed that my dad would actually make small talk with a Kansas City Chief. In part, my speechlessness was hero-awe, and in part it was mere confusion. When he took me, my dad didn't tell me what we were doing. He just said he had a surprise for me. So we get in the car and we're driving and we pull into this car dealership, and all of a sudden I'm thinking, "GO KART! GO KART! I'M GETTING A GO KART!" And then we get out of the car and go in and there's a guy standing there and he's not even in a Chiefs uniform and he's not 11 feet tall, and my dad says, "This is Mike Livingston", and my mind reeled with a thousand conflicting thoughts. I simultaneously had to deal with the fact that I wasn't getting a go kart, that I was meeting my first Chief, that a Chief did not always wear his uniform, and that a Chief on the street did not look like a superhero. It was a lot to deal with. |

I'm going to say my favorite memory is when I did a sketch comedy show. One of my cast mates, and a good friend of mine, is really tight with James Gandolfini, so he came to the show. Gandolfini came out with us afterwards, and I just kind of let them be alone, so I drank with some other people. The waitress came by dropping off drinks:
"Manhattan on the rocks?" "oh, I didn't order this, but I'll take another please." "Mr. Gandolfini sent this over." "Uh...that's the coolest ****ing thing anyone has ever said to me. Thanks." Toast to Gandolfini. Waitress comes back. "Can I get another Manhattan on my tab?" "Mr. Gandolfini wants to buy it." "Sure. that's... sure. No problem." End of night. "Can I get my tab?" "Mr. Gandolfini would like to take care of the bill." Girl next to me: "Can I get my tab, too?" "I'm sorry, Mr. Gandolfini would like to take care of the entire table's bill." Eight people. Dinner. Five hours of drinking. Gandolfini, y'all. Gandolfini. I've actually met a ton of people, because I worked at a studio for a long time, and my wife is an actress. Jon Hamm got drunk at my house. That was fun. |

I was playing a round as a walk on and the starter asked me if I'd mind playing with Fred Arbanas. Hell no, I wouldn't mind! Real nice guy and also a liar. I was playing like shit and he kept telling me "nice shot, Bob". The hell it was, now help me find my ball. |
My grandparents lived with Johnny Cash and June. Basically, they built a huge house in Branson, and when Johnny opened his theater there, they lived with my Grandparents.
Even as a kid, I knew that was badass. What I wouldn't give to go back and have my adult mind when I talked to him. |
Geez these are some lists.
I shook hands with Mickael Gorbachev (sp?) once when he visited IU for a talk back in the mid-90's. I was coming out of the student union early in the morning after getting some coffee and he steps out of a limo with two security guys. Couple of us students walked up and shook hands. Didn't really say anything, but he was polite. Pretty cool to shake the hands someone who could have destroyed all of mankind if he so inclined. |

Many, but only in a "hi how do you do" way not like I know them. My close family member owns a business with several tour coaches driving music acts, stage acts, etc. around the country on tour.
Have partied with the Kotton Mouth Kings on several occasions. Those guys are sharp young men. A couple times that come to mind are when I was a college freshman. Mickey Rourke and Terry Farrell were in town together. Went up to their room, Terry asked me if I could get them some blow. Rourke was sitting at the table in the corner, in the dark, smoking a cig, with a pile of crumpled up bills on the table. I went to Rober Goulet's room to deliver hot water and honey. He wasn't there, propped the door open per procedure, went in and this animal thing landed on my shoulder. Turned out he had a couple of exotic cats, one had jumped on me from the spiral staircase, then the bastard ran out the door. Here's me chasing Robert Goulet's cat down the hallway laughing my ass off at the absurdity of it all. |
I have met a few astronauts this was back in high school. Hank Williams Jr. There are a few others but this all I remember at this moment.

Can't think of too many.
Did the twist with Chubby Checker at a free concert in front of Crown Center when I was a lad of 6 or 7. He pull me out of the crowd and showed me what to do. Way bigger deal for mom than me at the time. Talked at length with Walter Payton when he was lobbying for an NFL team for St. Louis [the Stallions, I think]. Got a 1-1 picture from that one. Played basketball 3x@week throughout most of 1992 legis session with 'Jay' Nixon and 'Lacy' Clay Jr. Couple of Gen-Ed classes with Jenna Fisher at Truman [nee Northeast Missouri State], never really interacted w/her though, much to my chagrin. |
