It appears this guy is 26 years old? What am I missing here?

Carve out a Gary Stills type role and grow from there. Dadi Nicholas might have kept his spot if not for a torn patella. Smaller size guys but if he can create a spot for himself like they did that’s a good start

I personally love his frame! Built like one of those double-digit sack guys that make you say "How the **** is this guy doing this?".

Man I hope he's not the next Kpass or Kaindoh. We keep swinging at that with mid-round picks.
Please develop, BJ. |
4.4 40, 40" vert, yeah. I wanted Nolan Smith and Adebaware really bad. Veach had it the whole time. We good.

He can be like a door bottom draft stopper against the Eagles soccer scrum. They trip me up

I have no idea where those numbers came from other than a creative agent that was trying to help his client. It will be interesting to watch Thompson in preseason. |
I'll buy in. I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see him at 250-ish by season opener. I doubt SFA has superior nutrition and weight training programs. I'll laugh when he blows by fatass Brown.
|
Did I hear that right? He ran a 4.4 40?

Most intriguing pick of this draft, a classic outside the box roll of the dice on raw potential and skill

Woah, that QB started to run for his life! LMAO

Smith was a 4.39 and BJ was a 4.61. (Not close) Smith broad jumped 128". Thompson was 125" (close). Smith has a vertical 0f 41.5" and Thompson 37.5". Maybe Thompson had some private workouts where his numbers were better. |

I might be crazy. But I think this guy excites me the most out of the draft?
That’s not to say I think he’ll be better than FAU. But as far as what he brings and where we got him |

Dude looks like a small forward. Very spidery. Love the athleticism though. I feel like he needs to weigh closer to 265, but as a pass-rush specialist maybe he's fine at 240. Spags is going to love this guy. Especially if he can put on some weight and still be very quick/athletic.

This guy is 3" taller than Overshown, and a little heavier, but still looks like he could be the same type of player. |

But the highlight tapes are very interesting. Not sure he'll ever be a 3-down DE, or a 3-down anything, but that length combined with that athleticism could be really exciting for Chiefs fans on passing downs. I mean, as a bonus, this guy is probably going to swat as many passes as the rest of the DL combined, lol. He could lead the DL in INTs as well. Just tip drill everything to himself. Hope this guy pans out just to see him do crazy athletic stuff in red-and-gold. |

Don't hate it. Don't love it. Just a dude I hope can put on enough weight to push for a role as a situational rusher.

This guy could make OBJ his bitch with that speed..
|
With additions like this I keep think the Chiefs went into this draft with a particular situation in mind.
Late in games when the running game goes out the window, you want speed on the EDGE's. Frank Clark filled that roll the last few years but that was about all we had. With the guys we have now we could rush 3 and drop 8. Thompson-Jones-FAU (It only takes one to break through) On the back end we're loaded with in the secondary and could play 4 safeties and four CB's. That's going to be very tough to score on. Chiefs could beat you with Mahomes or this 3-4 package. |
I bet this guy can block a bunch of field goals and punts for us. I'd really try to coach him up on doing that. Thinking the possibilities

I guess I'm just not seeing what everyone else is. |
Every time he tries to convert speed to power I just want to pat him on the head like an angry toddler....
"Awww - that's just adorable. You keep at it, little buddy..." I mean the moment those arms get extended, the rush is done. He goes straight up, loses leverage and can't do anything to re-anchor because he's just not big enough. But again - duh. I don't think anyone would argue otherwise regarding his performance to date. The question is can he add weight and maintain the explosion. That's the nature of 3rd day picks - they aren't gonna be fully formed unless they're punters or fullbacks. Early on though, I wonder if you couldn't get some value by lining him up alongside Jones and forcing the OT to get back fast. Just send him blasting up the arc and get that OT hustling back into his set before he can give Jones that chuck. It would clear the Gs outside shoulder so now the G is left really with trying to guide him inside for C help or with trying to take him head-up. Which kinda gives Jones control of the rep. But yeah - right now he's a guided missile or a decoy. Even those of us who are big fans of the pick have never argued otherwise. At best right now he can use the get-off to get the OT back and then set up that spin move if he catches one of them cheating. He doesn't have to win 20% of his reps to have an impact. He can get 4-5 sacks this year being little more than he is right now and play a complementary part in the DL writ large picking up a couple more. |
I can absolutely see packages against Cincy, NY and Buffalo in the playoffs where we have Thompson in as an OLB and he cheats up to a wide 9 and destroys the edge and we still drop 6
I’m looking at you, Orlando. You’re going to need to clean up that piss and get changed. |
Not sure you can put 20 pounds on this kid. he's pretty narrow. Even if you could, it probably would slow him down too much.
|
Okay I'll be that guy
can he catch |
Something that he can learn to do quickly to add value is getting his hands in the air at the right time to block the pass or obstruct the view. In games against Denver and Houston, or other shorter QBs, that is a plus.
I can already see him being effective from the edge on a WR screen or a pass to the flats. Make the QB take an extra beat to lob it over him, and give Sneed enough time to come in and clean up. |

Since the other thread was locked because nobody can seem to stop interjecting politics into every single walk of life, anyone have updates on BJ from local sources? Feels like no news is bad news right now, are they still practicing today?
