For decades they manage to play well enough to show they can beat anyone, and choke enough to show they can lose to anyone, . . . and it's often in the same game.
It's not like they have ever been 'pathetic' for any extended period, like every other franchise in the league, just chronically underperforming at key moments.
4 SB losses while the SB was still in its infancy, . . the 15-1 superseason derailed in the playoffs. The kicker that never misses, missing. . . . And that's just the 'ancient' history. This year every single loss has been close, conceding a late lead, keyed on crucial brainfarts.
It's unsettlingly weird that you can BOTH think that the team would not be near as good as they are without Zimmer AND would not be near as unsuccessful as they are without him as well.
