Wish we could just trade this team for an NBA team. A shitty NBA team is 1000x more exciting than this shit.

It's true

Boomerball isn't made for small markets.

Yeah I'll take him to a Chiefs game here in about three years when he's 10. That's the proper introduction to KC sports. Not watching the hapless Royals lose 3-1 on a 102 degree summer day.

Eh I'll probably take him to some. One of the perks of the current stadium is the Little K where he can actually have fun and play games and stuff. That will go away with a downtown park and it will just be watching baseball. Which is torture for little kids.

A new stadium will have more entertainment than Kauffman. That's why they want one.

Kind of. They want all your money is the real reason. To get all your money, they want to be able to offer you more entertainment options both at the ballpark and around it.

The new ballpark would certainly have more suites for more money. It would have more child friendly options for more money. The area surrounding the ballpark would have more venues for food/drink before the game, after the game, and during the offseason for which they will get a cut of the money spent there. Also, since everything is nice and new, they will charge more for all of it.

So yes, you will get much more entertainment and they will get much more money.

Its a horrible shitty league run by dipshits and product that is poor. I can't stand the league and up until recently years ago I watched it a ton.

Then you throw in the fact that Kansas City and St. Louis both are at the bottom of the national tv ratings when it comes to NBA telecasts. No franchise is coming to Missouri.

A city that doesn't have a team, doesn't watch it? Stunning.

People who think the NBA is this terrible product are by and large people who think college basketball rules and seem to quickly whitewash how terrible it is.

tk13 06-14-2023 11:54 AM

NBA games are fun but the catch is the NBA if you don't have a real top level superstar you have no chance. Zero. Not even a little, you're just spinning your wheels. Not that small market baseball teams do great either though really. But you can at least have upstart teams and teams that have legit playoff runs. You can build a team that has a great bullpen or gets 2-3 starters who get hot and carry you, those kinds of things. In the NBA you basically have to have one of the handful of superstars and they can't get hurt like Giannis did this year or you're done.

It's their answer to tanking as a strategy, if you collect revenue sharing it's 3 years in a row, if you pay revenue sharing it's 2 years in a row.

dlphg9 06-14-2023 02:03 PM

If you don't receive revenue sharing, then you just can't have consecutive top 6 picks.

Also, according to MLB.com teams that receive revenue-sharing payouts can't receive a lottery pick for more than two years in a row and those that don't can't get a top 6 choice in consecutive drafts.

A lottery pick is a top 6 pick. The Royals haven't received a lottery pick, because they have pick 8 this year, so they can still get a top 6 pick next year (2024) and the year after (2025). They were in the lottery, but every team that isn't in the playoffs is in the lottery. That doesn't mean they received a lottery pick.

Sherman seems more like a snake as time goes on. Mother****er has wanted to move down town and has been talking about it for over a year now, but literally doesn't want to give any type of details. I don't think he was expecting this team to be atrocious and now he's worried about what kind of response he's going to get from tax payers.

We'll see. Glass was terrible early on but he learned as he went along. He still had things that could have been better, especially when trading away guys and not eating some of their salary, but when they actually had a legit shot he'd approve trades for veterans and spend a little money. He let Dayton improve the baseball operations and he let him spend over slot in the draft to game the system. Of course spending money meant ending up with guys like Ian Kennedy sometimes, but they made a fair effort for a small market team. We have no idea what Sherman's going to do. The returns so far have been bad all the way around. And now we have no idea about all this stadium stuff on top of it. You always have to be careful what you wish for.

The Royals will not be eligible for the draft lottery in 2025. Small market teams cannot lottery in three consecutive seasons.

This means the Royals are in rough shape, AND won’t pick any earlier than 10th in the 2025 draft, regardless of their win-loss record.

There are a number of reasons not to have a ballpark anywhere near downtown. We're starting the season of the horrible smell throughout the city that emanates from the river and spreads throughout the city over land and via the storm drains. Did a stream team cleanup on the Missouri this past weekend, took a boat ride up to kaw point. exactly halfway through our ride, that smell hit right in front of the kc current stadium. Tonight that stank is blanketing the city which will linger until the fall and beyond. Don't have the stank at kauffman, just tons of overpriced parking.

Oh no. They might fall out of last place.

Inflation still high and property owners are getting 246% increases. Awful time to ask the taxpayers for MORE money

The Royals will not be eligible for the draft lottery in 2025. Small market teams cannot lottery in three consecutive seasons.

This means the Royals are in rough shape, AND won’t pick any earlier than 10th in the 2025 draft, regardless of their win-loss record.

They didn't get a lottery pick this year, so they haven't even started that streak yet. They have the 8th pick and top 6 are considered lottery picks.

Lynch has the exact same issue a bunch of other Royals pitching prospects have, he doesn't throw hard enough to get away with mistakes. If his control is off he is either going to walk a bunch of guys or get absolutely blistered...or both.

We live in a time where if you're sitting at 94 without a +++ breaking pitch you have below average stuff. In reality a lot of this is on the Royals for using high draft picks on guys who have physical limitations with their stuff. You're supposed to you high picks on guys who are elite throwers you can mold into pitchers..not guys with below average stuff to begin with.

Corbin Carroll (az) = #2 prospect for 2023
Booby Schitt Jr = #2 prospect 2022

Carrroll is 2nd in mlb war age 21, 3.4. Only behind Acuna. Hitting 165 wRC+. Booby 89 wRC+ (league avg is 100, so Carroll is 65% better than avg)

Similar to where you don’t have a chance in the NFL without a top tier QB.

The Royals inability to develop players properly or really scout properly has left them in a pretty precarious position. They are the worst team in the MLB..on pace for one of the five worst seasons of all time...and the farm system is also bare.

This isn't a team headed to the cliff being helmed by Tony Graffanino or Emil Brown, these guys were supposed to be part of a winning team...it's pretty much at just burn it down and start over stage.

Sassy Squatch 06-15-2023 10:21 AM

Yeah, we're in pretty deep shit here. Leaving Moore unchecked for years has led to an absolute dearth in talent relative to the rest of MLB and these new guys hired can't seem to develop anything positive with the few workable pieces we actually had.

Sassy Squatch 06-15-2023 10:24 AM

Just wonder when Sherman pulls the plug. At this point it's a matter of when. He has to be smart enough to know coming with hands outstretched for public funding is going to go rather poorly when you're also fielding the literal worst team in the league.

If there was anything to actually burn down. I believe they are already at the "burned down" and are in the "starting over" part. The problem is that it's a long road when literally no one has the patience to watch without complaining.

I'd be quite content to let them wallow in the squalor they've created were it not for the fact I'm constantly bombarded by bickering about a new stadium and where it's going to be.

Is it hard to raise a buck when your team sucks dick in their sleep or somethin?

Well there are a huge bunch of people out there that have been in that front office for over a decade that seem to have no fear of being replaced.

They should 100% listen to offers for anyone and everyone...if someone wants to talk about Bobby Witt you should listen.

The theme this year should be “**** you build me a stadium”.

Another last place finish, **** you build me a stadium.

On track for over 100 losses, **** you build me a stadium.

Going to finish with the worst record in baseball **** YOU BUILD ME A STADIUM!

You can always buy a trailer in the country. Cheap as ****. People don't understand what a want and need is. They will make 50k a year and they want to live in a downtown high rise, have a $2,000 phone, eat out every meal and drive a brand new vehicle. If you are poor, make choices accordingly. Nobody owes anyone anything.

You're an idiot. You obviously have never looked to buy land before if you think it's "cheap as shit." You may find cheap land, but it's not gonna be cheap by the time you clear it out to have space to put your trailer and to have utilities ran to it. You also have never lived in a rural area if you think it's cheaper, especially now. In the city you have all kinds of options, but where I live the nearest grocery store is 15 miles away and that place is much more expensive than Walmart or a large grocery store chain. Housing used to be fairly cheap, but now houses that used to go for $40k are selling for over $100k.

If you have a large service provider for your cell service you can pretty much get your phone for free and only have to pay your monthly payment for cell service. You can't find a decent low mileage family vehicle for less than $10k. You seem to have this boomer type of thinking that people can't afford anything because they have Netflix and all of these different things you don't need, but that's not even remotely close to the reason why people can't afford things.

You're ignorant as shit and pretty much a literal tard.

Mecca 06-15-2023 03:42 PM

BWillie with the you deserve to be trailer trash if you don't want to fund a stadium argument...bold tact.

Poor people don't buy houses or many times even trailers silly. They rent them so any start up cost for the property does not exist.

Regardless it's comical you seem to think rural housing is not the cheaper of the options.

Avg home price per square foot in rural housing was $102. Suburbs $138. Urban $231.

I have indeed lived in a rural area when growing up. Mills County Iowa. Broke ass mother ****ers everywhere. Looooots of meth. Bad jobs and very little education beyond high school.
