It's been 30 games since he hit his low point for OPS .664, not including the first 2 weeks. Since then he's been on a hell of a pace. If you extrapolated his last 30 games over a 162 games this is what ya get 178 hits, 27 2Bs, 27 HRs, 103 RBIs, 43 BBs, 113 Ks, 54 SBs, .282 BA, .328 OBP, .781 OPS Now add that to his incredibly improved D at SS. He's 30th in the majors and 7th among ML SS in Outs Above Average. According to Fangraphs, so far he has the 6th highest DEF rating at SS (6.9). Last year he was dead last among SS that played 800+ innings with a -3.5 DEF rating. He's got the 7th highest WAR at SS and if he continues to hit even remotely close to what he has been the last 30 days + the first month of the season, then there is absolutely no way you trade him. At worst that is the 3rd best SS in the game. Bobby Witt Jr. has me finally really excited for what he might actually become. He didn't let a brief slump derail his entire season and has been hammering the ball and another exciting sign about this last month is that he isn't just lucking into hits. He has a .301 BABIP during that 30 day stretch. |
Royals outfield defense should be improved now. That can help the pitching staff out.
|
Our leading RBI guy in the lineup tonight has 38. That makes me sad.
|
Been a pitching duel tonight
|
That was a mess but it's a run.
|
That was as bad of a play as I can remember.
|
And now a bad one for the Royals. Nicky Lopez has been thrown out at second base twice tonight.
|
Nicky's throw out at second was the ball don't lie for the previous snafu that the Royals got to score on lol
|
How the hell did Nicky Lopez bat .300 2 years ago? He is beyond worthless

Why is Cleveland good with their young lineup and the Royals so bad? This is worse than the Chiefs in the 80s. At least the Chiefs weren't talking about wanting a new stadium.
Looks like scoring 1 run in 18 innings; it's really hard to watch. Feel badly for the people who paid their hard earned money to go sit in 100 degree temperature and watch this sort of product. |
What an absolute waste of a trade that was for McArthur.

Domingo German for the Yankees just threw a perfect game against the A's. 24th time in the history of baseball. A's still find a way to one up us tonight.
|
****ING AWESOME.

German said his uncle died two days ago. He cried all day Tuesday for him. He said he pitched all night with his uncle on his mind. Amazing how it happened under those circumstances.

Congrats to him. Crazy that he gives up 10 runs in his last start and now throws a perfect game today on 99 pitches.

Well I guess he's a pretty big piece of shit lmao.

Sherman press conference coming up in 30 minutes. Maybe he will announce that unless the Royals win the pennant, he will be moving the team. This will lead to the most improbable comeback in baseball history.

This is probably the most interesting bit from the press conference. Kind of confirms that they aren't seriously considering Clay county.

Sherman says they're looking more at April for a potential ballot date for a new stadium should they move forward in Jackson County. Have not had as extensive/specific conversations about that with Clay County.
— Anne Rogers (@anne__rogers) June 29, 2023
Also this one which indicates that he's not terribly concerned about the team losing.

John Sherman noted the Cubs, Astros and Orioles all suffered through terrible seasons with young players before turning things around. "Sometimes you've got to get worse before you get better. Also all of those teams completely rebuilt their entire front offices in the process. |

|
If Sherman wanted to restart the clock to zero, he should've completely cleaned house, top to bottom. He doesn't get that privilege by keeping in place a lot of the folks who were there for the previous 5 seasons.
|
Quote:
Also the real problem is you can't realistically evaluate a player when the entire organization has been with them since draft day, they're attached to player succeeding. A new front office would likely to be willing to take calls on any player in the organization, these guys likely aren't willing to do that. I said this before and I'll say it again I would talk about Bobby Witt Jr to the Dodgers.. In return I'd want, Andy Pages, Emmett Sheehan, Nick Nastrini and another add like Kyle Hurt. If they'd part with those guys I'd toss them Witt and Barlow. |

-Sherman takes responsibility for the team being in the position that there in right now.
-Ownership is “itching to spend money” in free agency but the nucleus has to be intact. -Team is playing worse than they had projected. -Minor league pitching philosophy change has shown some improvement in prospects but they have to keep adding via trades and draft. -Royals claim to be “waiting” on Jackson and Clay county for the stadium, not the other way around. -Clay county approached the Royals -For Jackson county plan will be to extend the current sales tax if it’s approved (300-350 million). State would fund more and the ownership group would invest over a billion. -Said the data shows favorable support so long as the Chiefs and Royals both ask for a tax extension in Jackson county. Said they were “humbled” and later mentioned the data wasn’t favorable if just the Royals asked for the extension. -Mentions brining in Manfred to talk about how the K doesn’t meet current mlb standards. -Sherman wants to speed up the process to avoid another “Oakland situation.” -Labor Union is going to the media as a negotiation tactic. -Jackson county site provides vertical growth, Clay county would provide the team with areas to expand outward into. -Understands the fans frustrations about asking for money when the team is this bad. However said that there thinking about “50 years into the future” and not just what’s happening right now. He's threatening us with Manfred if he doesn't get his way. |
Just let the lease run out and tell them to **** off.

Quote:
Also if you listen to that interview, he literally just got on mic and told people to give him money or this was going to become "an Oakland situation". He is laying the groundwork for moving the team if taxpayers don't build him a new stadium. Then he threatened to bring in Manfred.. This dude may threaten to move the team if his proposal stalls. |
Oh, I meant tell the to **** off out of KC. Relocate? Gladly. Baseball is a stagnant sport on life support and it's not worth investing hundreds of millions into, especially as a small market.

The difference is people care about the Chiefs and Mahomes is the guy.....the Royals are a piss poor organization that looks like they are asking for stuff while they can't even be competent.
|
I don't care one bit about this franchise anymore. We had our run, but draft after draft since 2015 (maybe even earlier) has just been full of crap. We whiffed on last year and there's really not one young guy on the current roster that I would be disappointed if we traded him.
I would be slightly optimistic if we cleaned house, but JJ just seems like Dayton part 2. **** Sherman, let the team move if he wants to try to force taxpayers hands for something that is only going to make the team more valuable for him to sell. |
I'd be much more forgiving if this was year 1 of a new regime...it's not.
Do teams that have 50 year old stadiums, probably need new ones? Yea they probably do, it just looks bad when you are asking for that when you are in the midst of being historically awful. |

The key to baseball is building a farm system and keeping your own star players. Braves and Cardinals have been that model. Royals did that right with Salvy but haven't produced anyone else. Then fill the holes with a FA or trade. Royals with a new stadium would be in the middle of the pack salary wise easily. That is where Denver, St. Louis and Minneapolis is. Have no doubt the Royals would be as well. |
Quote:
The point is no you aren't going to build a championship team in FA but you should be looking for valuable pieces that can fit in to what you are doing and the Royals don't even do that. They can spend money they choose not to. |
