Nope. Most of the ESPN ones are when I worked as a concierge at a Hollywood hotel and they all stayed there for the ESPYs.

Renaissance, when it was still Renaissance. Now it's a Loew's.

Oh, I met the guy who played the Hispanic Lt. on Hill Street Blues after it went off the air. He was shaking hands and smiling in our galley (cafeteria on a ship, I was active duty Navy at the time) and he seemed like a nice guy. Somebody asked him if the show was coming back and he said something like, "Well, I hope so" but this was in Mazatlan and he looked pretty happy to be ****ing around in paradise all day long.

I just checked and I guess the guy died of pancreatic cancer back in 1990. That's too bad. He went out of his way to stop by our ship and meet with us. Came off as a genuinely nice guy. RIP.

I haven't been there since they changed ownership. Is it better, worse or any different? Any remodeling?

We really dig the W Hollywood. While the Bliss spa isn't full service there, they do employ excellent people. The rooms are nice and the hotel is fun.

Personally, I never got that vibe at the Ren. We were just down at the Redbury and it's pretty cool, although the bar area is small and I'm waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay over their outdoor bar vibe, the "Library". I hated that nonsense when I was younger and have zero tolerance now.

Talk about a room full of douchers and douchettes.

Yeah, the Renaissance was mostly families and business travelers. They'd pretend they were trendy but they were anything but. Pretty much the same place now, from what I hear. Remodeling, but it's all superficial changes I think.

Redbury, W, and the Roosevelt are all much cooler.

Especially where restaurants are concerned.

The Redbury's restaurant was interesting (Persian/Arabic/Greek) but I'm not sure I could make it a regular habit. The French restaurant at the W is pretty good (can't remember the name without looking it up - D something?) and the Roosevelt definitely has the coolest vibe of them all, IMO.

I love that bar, hangin' in the main room, grabbing a burger late or whatever. I'm not into the pool area (unless chicks are getting crazy & naked) but it's probably my favorite of the three if I'm going out with the guys.

I really like Cleo, but I can see not making it a regular spot. I did always think Delphine was kinda cool. At least it's different than most places in the area. The Roosevelt is just old school kinda cool. Really good bartenders and the food at Public Kitchen and Bar is actually pretty good, especially the desserts.

Not my ideal place to go out for dinner and drinks in the city, but if you're in the area it's not bad.

Yeah, I really liked Cleo and the food was excellent. They had some interesting takes (the oysters and octopus) and their flatbreads, pitas and lamb were excellent. The drinks were uber weak and the door to the valet was constantly open, so there wasn't really a great vibe in their bar area, especially with a bigger party like we had, in which we were practically hovering over restaurant patrons.

Delphine is very good but I'm still shocked there's not a restaurant on the scale of Olives (which is amazing in Union Square), Blue Fin (47th & Broadway) or a Whiskey Bar. Drai's is for douchers, so it's not really my type of hang.

And yes, The Roosevelt definitely has the old-school vibe and their remodel has been a great success. I remember going in there back when I first moved to Hollywood back in 1993 and thinking it was an empty dump. I was so bored I agreed to be part of a test group for a new CBS show that failed (Annie Potts was the star). We were all sweating our asses off after the 22 minute pilot because they didn't have central air!

That's crazy to think about now. :D

Wife had to step around Tech N9ne in the Wal Mart meat dept last weekend. She didn't say anything bc she didn't want to freak him out or anything. I don't think I could have not at least made contact...I've been listening to his music for half my life. I haven't met anyone really. About 10 years ago I was at the same little bar as Cuba Gooding Jr, he used to frequent the same place as my sister and BIL, so they all knew eachother. I think he stopped by the table and said hello, but I didn really meet him.

my daughter was maybe 5 or so and my mom took her to home depot. they are standing in line and my little chatty kathy strikes up a conversation with the guy in line behind them. in hindsight my mom said she noticed that when my daughter asked his name he would circumvent the question. anyways, this guy treated my mom and my little girl very nicely. they talked a while until they paid and went on their way. they get home and me and dad are watching some sports show and Marcus Allen is being interviewed. my mom walks in and says "oh my GOD! we just talked to that man! who is he!?" I've been to a lot of amazing restaurants in LA. I still love Cleo the most. I was just in Gordon Ramsay's in the London and wishing I was at Cleo the other day. It's really good.

Chris Tabor (not very famous)--Special Teams Coordinator for the Cleveland Browns--college classmate, and our dad's were childhood friends

Sally Ride--astronaut--got her autograph

Stevie Ray--half of Harlem Heat. Really big dude with enourmous hands, but very, very nice. Met him at a car show in Houston in the swap meet area...he was looking for parts for a car he was working on.

Doyle Brahmall--drummer/songwriter (co-wrote several songs with Stevie Ray Vaughan--met him after a show at the Continetal Club in Houston

Mike Keller--current guitar player for The Fabulous Thunderbirds, he was playing for Doyle Bramhall at the time and I and a buddy "saved him" from some nasty bar chicks.

Jamie Mueller--former second string FB with the Bills during their first two Super Bowls...we went to the same college, and he visited my high school a few times

Bob Dole--the Senator. Nice guy, crushing handshake with his good hand.

Shook hands with Ronald Reagan when he was campaigning in 1988, school took us to a campaign stop at KCI. I was more interested in the chick who was sitting on my shoulders shortly before during the speech.

Shook hands and briefly spoke with Hillary Clinton during the 1992 campaign when she was kicking off Bill's Missouri leg in the Missouri senate break room, don't remember a word she said [outside of generalities about winning Missouri] but she was quite motivational, spent a week stuffing envelopes for them after.

Pretty damn short list for me. I met most of the 1993 or 94 Chiefs team at KCI one season. I remember most of them being pretty cool. Joe Montana and Marcus Allen came out behind this rope thing and were off limits to us. Derrick Thomas was really cool. Pellom McDaniels was really nice. He's the one guy that sticks out to me in my memory of that.

I have met almost nobody famous.. let's see:

- Paul Rudd: fixed his phone at the Apple Store. He was with his wife and kid(s?- it was a stroller- couldn't tell..) and holding a box of kids software. I asked if he was challenging himself, picking the 6-10 age category.. had a good laugh. I'm pretty proud of myself for that one because, whatever, I'm not famous and **** you.

- George Wendt: fixed his phone, too.

- Stevie Wonder: fixed his Mac.

- Richard Simmons: saw him at O'Hare Airport, getting out of a limo. Seemed like a douche. Didn't say anything. That's the extent of it.

- Drank with the two guys from MGMT at McCoy's in Westport. His aunt came up and said hi to him. I bought shots, because I was a drunk douche.

- I was backstage at Warped Tour 2000 and met Lars Fredericksen from Rancid-- he was in Lars Fredericksen and the Bastards at the time, I think. He invited me onstage and I danced in front of thousands (20,000?) of people.

I've got nothing else. Should I meet someone else famous soon, or should I remember a story at least as good as these, I'll report back. You have my word.

Met a couple...

I was coming home from Viet Nam on emergency leave (My father had passed) and when I landed at SF, my connecting flight was full and didn't have much hope. The Captain told the passengers of my problem and asked if anyone would give up their seat. Edward G. Robinson gave me his seat (first class) AND his home telephone number in LA. He wanted me to let him know that I made it back in time. what a fine human!

Over the years I met Ron Howard, Jay North (Dennis the menace), and Derrick Thomas. Still have a signed jersey and a mini-helmet.

I went to school with Danny Clinch, famous photog for rock n roll that you may or may not have met while shooting all the concerts.

So I assume "MET" to some of you means saying "hi" when you see them in person or just seeing them walk by near you?

CallMeSquidwad 11-09-2013 09:01 AM

I'm sure that list is impressive to people who care in the slightest bit, but here in real life I took the opportunity to use this pointless thread that had the words MET and LIFE in it to say WE GOIN TO METLIFE IN FEB, WE GOIN TO THE SHIP WHAT WE GOIN TO THE SHIP WHAT, talk about this because it matters celebrities don't matter worth a flying ****, and our society needs to stop treating these morons like they're special.

I used to date Pamela Anderson back in her Baywatch days. Then she went and got that massive boob job and it was just too much for me. although I'd still have her over for a quickie every now and then.

Danny Bonaduce-On the beach while on vacation in Hawaii
Will and Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan-In Chicago when they were promoting Karate Kid
Jay Cutler-Same day as above, he was wearing a fluorescent track jacket, short shorts and visor, while walking his bulldog. Also acted like a total dick.
Most 'Bama players from the Saban era, including a few I know quite well including AJ McCarron, Barrett Jones, and Trent Richardson. I also lived across the hall from DJ Fluker my freshman year.
In 2003, I went up to training camp in MN and got to meet a lot of the Chiefs players including Trent, Tony G, Priest, and Tony Richardson, who was one of the nicest guys I've ever been around. Only guy who wasn't too welcoming was Dante Hall, but I've heard from a lot of others that he's a really good guy so I'll give him a pass.

Quite a few Cardinals players too, including Edmonds several time, as well as Pujols, Freese, and Mcgee.

Jericho is a cool guy. I met him at a strip club and talked about lifting and shit. The rest of them just stayed upstairs in the VIP. He was cool as hell, just talking with everybody and chilling. I am not a wrestling fan, but that was pretty cool.

Went to a small party at Rob Zombie's house up in Connecticut one Christmas. My wife and Sherri Zombie went to H.S. together and remain good friends.

Played air hockey with him, and talked for a long time about movies.
