Yes, but you have to implement the plan and let it play out. If it ends up being just a cheapskate owner then we have to see it, but so far the moves are what we all wanted to see happen. Aka the anti-GMDM.

Some of these guys will get hurt or surely bomb, but they're throwing numbers at it.

If he runs it like Tampa, it's not always going to be 5 starters, 3-4 strong bullpen guys you can rely on with 3-4 bullpen guys you use for long relief/getting blown out.

It's going to going to be 3-4 starters, a 1-2 guys who are "starters" who might pitch the innings 3-6 sometimes. A couple guys who can "close" and a couple guys who can "open" and maybe a couple other guys they can use in specific matchup situations. We'll have to see though but every guy will have to bring something to the table because they'll play the numbers and matchups religiously.

Welp then I am going to assume...Barlow is dealt with Dozier attached and then Amir Garrett is traded for like a sack of balls.

makes sense to have a supersized bullpen with pitch counts and such
especially with our starters

Royals discussing other trades

But wait, there might be more movement coming from the Royals, who have now dealt Mondesi and outfielder Michael A. Taylor in the past 24 hours. According to ESPN, the Royals have also discussed trades that involve utility player Hunter Dozier and infielder Nicky Lopez.

Dozier, a 31-year-old potentially signed through the 2025 season, has failed to make good on what appeared to be a breakout season in 2019. He's posted an 89 OPS+ over the last three years while bouncing around the corner positions. Lopez, 27, is under team control through the 2025 season. He too failed to build upon what was a banner season in 2021. His OPS+ dipped from 104 to 58.

The Royals have a glut of young position players either in the majors or on the way, making them an obvious candidate to ship out at least one more hitter between now and Opening Day.

In the old days, yeah. Maybe that has changed?

I think this front office looks at Lopez and Maikel Garcia and sees, at worst, equivalency. So they're willing to move the older player for what they can get.

Transactonal. It's what we've been wanting to see...

There's also Camargo who can play anywhere on the infield. He signed a minor league deal but he did that last year with Philly and ended up being a utilityman for them. They might be trying to set it up so Garcia, Witt, Massey and Eaton can play IF with Camargo behind them as the veteran who can play 2B/SS/3B.

They may, but they shouldn't. Barlow has some value, although he did have a noticeable drop in velocity last year. Dozier is just a sunk cost. We may really see how cheap the Royals are going to be. If they trade them as a pair it is purely cost control and nothing to do with trying to get better.

Would not be surprised. If they can't resurrect 1-2 of the current/former pitching prospects, it will be worse. Truth is, our offense has a better chance to be better without all the baggage from any vets we've traded. Pitching...100% depends on new coaches making an impact on what we already have. Wouldn't hurt to have Zach eating some innings and saying funny things.

dlphg9 01-25-2023 11:07 PM

I love how they are doing this. That dip shit Dayton Moore would have signed a couple of shitty vets to block our young players and would be out here telling everyone that he expects to be very competitive this year and he would legit believe it.

Not only will they get their shot, I think the organization will put higher expectations on them to succeed from the get go or they may become part of the transactional model and moved.

If so, will be interesting to see how prospects perform with immediate expectations from the prior regime. Coddling prospects and wasting several years of service time to "develop" at the Major League level had grown quite tiresome.

I hear those threats, but I always wonder where they would move that another owner of a team in that viewing area would really allow them to do so. I know it has happened with Washington/Baltimore, but it has been denied before.

Demolition starts in this Kansas City neighborhood as Royals push for downtown stadium
BY KEVIN HARDY JANUARY 27, 2023 5:00 AM

Kansas City has issued demolition permits for several buildings in the East Village, one of the top sites under consideration for a new downtown baseball stadium.

Crews have already begun tearing down the former Wiltshire Apartments building, a four-story brick structure at 10th and Holmes streets. Earlier this month, the city also issued pre-demolition permits for several other buildings in the East Village: the Della Lamb building at 1000 Charlotte St., the former Blackstone Hotel at 817 Cherry St. and a parking garage at 815 Cherry St.

The moves are the most visible sign in years of impending change for the long overlooked area of downtown — and underscore the belief of many that the neighborhood is the Kansas City Royals’ top choice for a new stadium.

“If I really had to make a bet and say to everybody today where that new stadium is being proposed, I am going with the East Village,” said Chris Stritzel, a developer who noticed the demolition of the Wiltshire building while walking around the area this week.

Anyone paying attention would know that the stadium is going in East Village and has been since the beginning of the discussion. The general public will lightly follow the press releases that different sites are being considered but this thing has been decided since Sherman bought the team. And I'm good with it...just saying.

Why would Vegas be a threat? From the sounds of it the Oakland As aren't getting anywhere close to the amount of potential funding they'd expected from Vegas to move there.

No.

They’re not moving the team.

That checks out. I just couldn't see how long-time KC guys like Stonestreet and PATRICK MAHOMES would want anything to do with the inevitable shitshow and blowback that even flirting with moving the team would bring.

Here you go. Should be official now.

No issue with that just wish they'd go after Bauer but it won't happen.

That is ... power I didn't think he had.

If Garcia adds some more punch to his profile, with his defense, speed, and on-base ability, he gets really exciting really quickly.

Mecca 01-31-2023 09:43 AM

Garcia showing something means if someone offers us anything for Lopez you might wanna take that.

Guessing that's cause San Diego spent 6 mill on one dude a few weeks ago in the international market.

ChiefsCountry 01-31-2023 05:11 PM

I just can't get that excited about international signings. 16 year old. That's a long ass time before they are ready.

poolboy 01-31-2023 05:17 PM

Feeling a little better about the pitching now with Zach back in the fold...
Pitching might be a strength for us this year

I have a feeling a new pitching coach will do wonders for Daniel Lynch. He would show lots of flashes and then one bad inning would do him in and always got worse when Cal came out.

The fact that AJ Preller and the Padres were on him is reason to be optimistic. Preller is one of the best international scouting evaluators in the game.
