But real shit |
Corey Taylor from Slipknot may be my greatest story. It was just before their 3rd CD release and at this point no one had really seen any of the band members without their masks. I went to see them headline for Fear Factory and Chimaira.
There was a line wrapped around the building the show was in, and along side the road the line wrapped around were the tour buses. In the middle of the line, on the curb sat a man smoking a cigarette. His hair was bright purple, red, pink, orange, green, and blue. It looked ridiculous. It wasn't until I got closer look that I realized who this person was. I was able to identify him by a tattoo on his neck. It was the barcode that every band member had. I stepped up to him once the line allowed me to. I nudged him and asked, " Aren't you Corey?" He stood up, and said, "Whoa, whoa, whoa! Pump the brakes! I'm Corey, what's your name?" I stayed and talked with him for a bit; all I can say is the dude was one of the chilliest, most humble person I've ever met. He refused to shake my hand, but wanted a hug. He thanked me for coming to see their band and being a supporter. Once he got on stage the wacky hair made sense. He slicked it back with water and in the lights of the show, it looked wicked as hell. That may have been the most impressive show I've ever witnessed. I was hugged by Corey Taylor, and I was relentlessly called "mother ****er" by the lead singer of Slipknot. |
Geeezzz..I'm old. The celebrities I've met were mostly in my youth when we lived in Arizona - back in the early 60s. As a kid, I met Jay North (Dennis the menace) Michael Ansara (Cochise in Broken Arrow) and later Dean Martin. Later, when the old man worked in LA, I became good friends with John Kay (Steppenwolf) And too many to remember...rockers like Chuck Negron (3 Dog Night) and Hoyt Axton.
Sat down with Derrick Thomas after one of his shows at the Adams Mark in the 90s. Great guy! Met Marty Schottenheimer and Carl Peterson in their first year at a Steak and Shake in Independence (40 Hwy). That's about it..... |

Henry Winkler
The lead singer of Sevendust at subway just randomly Paul Wall Not sure if. Mitch holthus is considered famous lol There are more I'm sure |
Ummm...Ive played poker with Russell Westbrook & Kevin Hart. Saw John Stockton a long time ago at a Hilton. Have just seen up close various celebrities in Vegas (didn't really meet them tho) including a drunk AF Lance Armstrong with two floozy looking bitches at the Wynn, managed to get a "Livestrong" shoutback. Creighton, and now Oregon coach, Dana Altman on an airplane.
Roy Williams, Bill Self, Paul Pierce and many other KU guys that you all prob dont care about. Decent amt of Chiefs players. Coolest local pro player was Jose Lima. Was in a gas station getting an energy drink and Jose Lima was in front of me buying some snacks. I asked him if he pitched the next day, and he said he was actually and shouted its "gonna be Lima Time baby", then high fived me. Im not even making it up. Then he asked me if I was going and what he thought about the team. Sucha cool guy. Saw Greinke at Kellys. It was funny, he was with some girl and her friend. He was just standing awkardly by the bar being pretty sober and quiet. He did not look to be having a good time. Nobody must have realized who the hell he was, then my drunk buddy goes up drunk AF and yells goooo redbirds. Greinke has no idea what was hoing on and just looked like a deer in the headlights, not mad or anything tho We can't all be Dane McCloood |

I used to work in Casinos in Shreveport/Bossier City, LA. I met a bunch, most of which were while I worked as a waiter in Jack Binion's Steakhouse, but here is what I remember:
Jessica Simpson and Willie Nelson while filming Dukes of Hazard. Willie is cool as a fan, Jessica not so much. Denzel Washington, pretty chill Ashton Kucher and Demi. Both complete douche bags. Ron White, smoked some weed outside of the restaurant after I waited on him, tried to give me some, coolest celeb I met, talked and BS'd for him awhile Richard Dreyfus, meh, he was ok Samuel Jackson, handled some fans bad when they tried to interrupt his eating Steve Harvey, he was kinda surprisingly snobbish Vince Gill, awesomely nice guy Kenny Loggins, he was OK, talked a bit Jessica Biel and Gerard Butler, met them while drinking in a bar Tito Ortiz, dudes noggin is huge Chris Benoit, Chris Jericho, Arn Anderson, William Regal, Buff Bagwell, Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, Met them at a bar. Me and a bunch of friends were partying and Buff was trying to hook up with this chick that was with us along with some other chicks. They all kinda migrated to us because of the girls. Most were pretty cool. |
I'm happy I've met our new President twice in life

Last year's Miss USA from Tulsa, Bill Clinton, Ted Cruz, Gary Sinise are the ones that come immediately to mind. Oh, I tailgated with Dante Hall as well as Derrick Thomas's son.

I had to look through the thread to see if I mentioned it before, but I had never visited New York until 2005. I had a project in New Jersey, so I crossed into NY for the weekend. I got a hotel near Times Square, put my suitcase in the room, and went for a walk. I made it about two blocks, and this door opened from a hotel, and Donald Trump came out, his face pinched into a big scowl. I did a double-take and one of his guards said, "Keep moving." Screw you, guard. I had no interest in stopping anyway. But it was funny that I'd been in NY for all of five minutes when I saw him.

Not really a brag because 90% of mine have been while waiting on their table, but my list is well over 100. I'd have to spend some time thinking about it. Highlights:
Denzel Washington Stevie Wonder Robert Downey Jr. Walter Kronkite Little Richard Kenny Rogers Zach Galifianakis Ozzy Osbourne Anne Hathaway Tim Allen James Marsters James Gunn Marcus Allen Julius Irving Kevin Love Dave Foley Ron Funches Alicia Keys Brie Larson Floyd Mayweather (unsurprisingly, award for biggest asshole of the bunch) Carole King Ed Helms Alan Horn (chairman of Disney Studios) Gabrielle Union Jonathan Taylor Thomas The Sklar Brothers Neil Smith Jenna Fischer Vernon Davis Ed Begley Jr. Louie Anderson Maurice Lamarche (Voice over guy who is basically every cartoon. Best known for Brai from Pinky and the Brain.) Ryan Mother****ing Leaf Those are probably my favorite/most interesting |
I always talk to other people, or read these posts, and realize that I haven't really met that many celebrities that I know of.
The lead singer from Sevendust at a concert. Kevin Costner in a grocery store in South Dakota. The Harlem Globetrotters back in like 1994 when I loaded their tour bus up with water and gatorades at the same grocery store I met Costner at. Other than that.....****ing nothing. EDIT: I'll add Adam Vinatieri because he came and spoke at a Boys and Girls club that my Dad worked at before I graduated high school. Had him autograph my Chiefs hat. Yeah that makes no ****ing sense. |
I met a bunch of different players as a kid at card shows (not sure if those count, but if it does then I can list Mickey Mantle).
Jeff Montgomery and Jim Eisenrich came to our school once and we got to meet them. I answered their "toughest" trivia question that day so I got some cool signed swag as a bonus. Got to meet Buzz Aldrin as a kid when he was at an airshow in Topeka. I've been down to Terry Bradshaw's place (when he lived in TX anyway) a couple of times and ended up buying a horse from him. Various Chiefs players/coaches at TC a number of times. John Dorsey and Charcandrick West were by far the nicest of them all. Real or fake, they would talk to you and seemed interested in it. My brother in law played a couple of years at KU for Roy, but he never saw much game time. A kid that grew up the next house down from my folks is a co-captain for KSU this year. He was in my stepsons graduating class. |

Spent a night at a little bar playing pool and drinking beer with country western singer Don Williams about 30 years ago. Had no idea who he was.
He was there with a friend and me and a buddy played pool all night with them. We got to shooting the shit with them and was talking about our jobs. When I asked Don what he did for a living he says I sing a bit, and play in a band. I asked him if he played in any of the bars around town and said I might have seen him he just kinda smiled and said, no not around here. The next week I was watching Solid Gold and it's going through the top hits and up popped his album with his picture and name , he had the #1 country western song in the country. His album was up there too. ROFL They were in town to pick up a Bass Pro Party Barge. |
I've met quite a few famous musicians and past/present players and Chiefs brass.
Recents are Jimmie Vaughn and Billy Bob Thorton ....one of my favs is Dennis Hopper. |

I forgot about Jamie Lee Curtis, she was very nice but did not tip well. Floyd Mayweather I met when he stayed at a hotel I was concierge at. He was a nightmare. Total entitled prick, cheap as hell, constant complaints. He didn't do much of the talking because he had a guy that did things for him who was also awful. I've waited on James Gunn a few times. Super nice guy. Someone I work with even approached him as a fan, which is kind of a no no, and he was really cool. Stevie Wonder is otherworldly. He shows up and it's like the pope is here. One time there was another blind guy in the restaurant who approached him to tell him what an inspiration he is. Stevie had him sit down at his table and they talked for like 30 minutes. Pretty incredible. Robert Downey Jr. Was really personable and nice. Usually someone of his level is very guarded and wants as much privacy as possible. He was very open and talked to pretty much anyone who approached him. Tim Allen was really standoffish at first, but he's a regular so after a few times he got to be friendly with me. His wife is incredibly nice. One disappointment was Denzel Washington. He was really creepy to one of the girls I work with that was waiting on him. I guess when you're Denzel and are used to every girl wanting to **** you, you can't imagine someone wouldn't be flattered by your attention. |

I met Zac Brown (and the rest of his band) while working security backstage at the NFL Tailgate (invite-only owner's party) at Super Bowl 51 in Houston. Zac is either really shy, or kind of a prick...I couldn't tell. I also met Fitz and the Tantrums, who opened for the Zac Brown Band. The lead singer for Fitz was super nice.

As a kid I met Ric Flair. Well, I actually met several wrestlers that day, but I was maybe 14 and I was a huge Ric Flair fan. My dad knew Bob Geigel? I that was his name. He was some Mid-States Wrestling dude, and I got to meet them in the locker room. It was a match between Bulldog Bob Brown and Flair vs Bruiser Brody and some other guy. I can't remember his name.
After the match I went to the back and Bruiser Brody scared the hell out of me. I don't think that guy ever faked a thing. Ric Flair laughed at me and told me that I was safe as long as I didn't smell like meat or beer, or something to that effect. Flair was really cool, and shook my hand, still drenched in sweat with blood in his platinum hair. I remember he had huge welts on his chest from the slaps from Brody. I was a huge fan but I could barely get words out of my mouth. I was trying to tell him what a fan I was, and he could obviously see how nervous I was, and he spontaneous let out a Woooooo, and said something like I get you brother, fans are why I do what I do. It was at old Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kansas. Other than being scared shitless by Bruiser Brody, and starstruck by my all-time favorite wrestler, The Nature Boy Ric Flair, I remember that I didn't realize until I was on my way home that all the wrestlers were just hanging out together. I was 14 and thought that good guys and bad guys, now called faces and heels, only hung out with other good guys, or bad guys, depending on which they were. I had just met my hero, and it took a while to process it, but Ric Flair couldn't have been more awesome. The other time I met my hero didn't go so well. I, along with every other little leaguer I knew idolized George Brett. He still is the greatest baseball player that I have ever seen. I don't remember the exact circumstances as to how it happened, but my dad's boss, my dad, and the woman my dad was having an affair with (who later became my stepmother but I was clueless at the time) were at I believe the Golden Ox, it was down by Kemper Arena, and somehow I ended up standing on the fringe of a group of adults outside. As a 10 year old kid (it was 1981) I remember thinking that I had been standing around with nothing to do as all the adults talked for what seemed like literal hours. It was probably 30-45 minutes, but that seemed like forever, especially when you complain about it and are told to just shut up. But then there was George Brett and all that waiting seemed like it was about to payoff. But as he made his way toward the restaurant some of the adults tried talking to him, and he basically told them to eff off. I didn't understand what was happening, so I tried to say something to him, and he made eye contact with me, and then basically hip checked me without saying a word. I know he saw me because we absolutely locked eyes. Of course, I immediately cried. I was 10 and he was my hero. I wore #5 because of him. As I embarrassingly tried to stop crying and stealthily wipe the snot from my face, I could hear the adults calling him a drunk asshole, and they were quite upset that a drunk celebrity would basically run over a little kid. I asked my dad about it years later, and he told me that Brett was so drunk that he was belligerent and didn't actually hip check me so much as staggered into me. My dad then told me something that I never knew, because after the incident at the door with my hero crushing my feelings I kinda blocked out the rest of the night. He told me that the other person who was with Brett (I wanna say Jamie Quirk but my dad couldn't really remember) paid the tab for everyone that had been standing outside, and came to everyone's table and apologized. Those are the two that truly stick out to me, that were not a result of my job. I met William Devane (sp?) at the American Royal. He was on a soap opera drama Falcon Crest or some crap. Later in life I had a job that brought me into contact with Deron Cherry and Joe Montana, who were both in the booze biz, and both super chill and charismatic. And I had a job where I participated in a conference call with Shania Twain. In fact, she actually said my name during the call. I never met her in person, but she was extremely nice over the phone, and knew her business front and back, quoting sales numbers spot on. Sent from my LG-H932 using Tapatalk |
I've got one, but I haven't seen/talked to her in decades and didn't even know she was famous until a couple of years ago - Dr. Gina Louden. She's a conservative news personality now.

Ran into Tommy Lee Jones at a Vegas airport my wedding week. I saw him (I was drunk) and was like, "whoa, Tommy Lee Jones?!?! I loved you in The Fugitive!!!" He responded with a terribly annoyed expression, briefly grabbed his balls and was like, "fugitive this, asshole!!!" And continued to storm on by.

I have been good personal friends with Brooks Wheelan (and his brothers...his 36 year old brother is the one I am closest to) since I was in 4th grade through wrestling camps and later on, my college town through his brother wrestling there and his family living there. Brooks is a standup comedian who was on SNL for a season. I can tell you tons of stuff about his comedy origins.
The Impractical Jokers had a pretty large following in Southeast Iowa at the start of their 1st season. One of the first places they toured to (as a comedy troupe called The Tenderloins) was Burlington, IA due to there being so many requests...they weren't used to the stardom yet and stated that they weren't publicly recognized at all and said repeatedly that they found it so random that out of all places where they developed a large following, SEI was the geographical location. My wife, cousins and I partied with them all night. Q was the coolest...hands down. He and I talked the entire night. Sal was very nice and socially awkward. Joe just seemed to float around and go along with the flow and "nose" everyone. Murr was a ****ing douchebag. He hit on my wife right in front of me. It was obvious to everyone there that her and I were together and right in front of me, he straight up pulled her aside and said shit to her (loudly) along the lines of, "dude, I had no idea there were hot women in Iowa. You are ****ing hot. Come to the bus with me and have some drinks. Etc." I spoke up and was like, "dude, can't you see that her and I are ****ing married?" He acted like he didn't notice by spitting his drink out and acting all like, "holy shit, omg, omg." Then my wife did something that pissed me off...she said, "oh rico, you know they are just joking. Stop acting like a little bitch!" This made Murr laugh hysterically, Joe seemed indifferent, Sal was mortified and told me sorry like a thousand times and begged me to continue being their fan and Q got pissed and said to my wife that she should not disrespect me like that and told Murr to cool it because he was being a douchebag to their fans. My cousin happened to snap a picture of Murr and my wife right when I told him to cool it. He also snapped a photo of Q and her in which he didn't even want to be in the pic with her because he thought what she said to me was uncool. I will attach those. And for the remainder of the night, Murr kept asking Joe (loud enough for me to hear), "dude, should I keep on hitting on that meat-head's wife? It'll be funny as hell, right?" Joe kind of smirked and said, "Murr, just don't get us killed." Q and Sal both noticed that I was hearing every bit of this and Sal continued to apologize and Q told me to ignore Murr for he is a total douchebag sometimes and that he was pissing him off...and assured me he wouldn't let him hit on her any more. Q and I were buds that night. I met Tom Green. He was in a twitter whore phase and retweeted a tweet that I wrote about Glen Humplik munching dingleberries that he thought was funny. He @'d Glenn and directed him to my account where he assured me that he does not eat dingleberries. Then he asked me to catch his show in my area for he was touring there. So I did... when I introduced myself, he was very stand-offish and acted like he didn't know what I was talking about when I brought up the twitter exchange. I asked my wife to marry me that night. I met Rick Flair at AAU Nationals when I was a Sophomore. His son was in my grade and weight...in my bracket. I spotted him in the nosebleeds hiding out by himself. I approached him with a dollar and asked him for his autograph and pointed out my name in his son's bracket and told him that if I won my next match and his son won his, we'd meet in the semis (I lost). He told me he would sign my dollar on the condition that I didn't tell anyone else that he was there, for he wasn't in the mood to be bombarded by kids...he just wanted to watch his son. I agreed to it. After signing, he wished me luck and told me the dollar would be worth a million now and smiled at me. I believe that son of his died a few years ago. Attached: 2 pics taken the moment I told Murr to cool it with my wife...even one of him spitting his drink out... followed by Q's reaction to the whole ordeal. He wasn't happy. |

I stood next to the Masterson bro who plays Francis in Malcolm in the Middle, Samantha Ronson and Lindsey Lohan in the front row of an underpopulated stage/crowd at Lollapalooza. We were watching DJ Momjeans aka Danny Masterson’s techno set. Lohan said something about how that was the first time she could enjoy watching from the crowd because there weren’t many people watching that show...they were all at Rage and Wilco. I was at Rage, but they kept stopping the show because people were literally getting trampled and smothered to the point where they were being air-cared to the hospital...De La Rocha was spending most the time telling everyone that people could get killed so we needed to take 5 steps back... so we left. Checked out Momjeans. It was pretty cool. The three didn’t stand there and converse that heavily or anything, but they were cordial...little small talk things. Lohan was the nicest...she came off as very sweet what little we interacted.

I remembered a couple more:
Steve Nash - I worked bouncer at a shit hole bar and didn't notice him sitting a the bar all night until last call and lights on. He was stumbling drunk trying to get to the pisser while we were herding all the drunks outside. One of the other bouncers was about to kick him out with the crowd but I noticed who he was and ushered him through the crowd to the back where the bathrooms were. Carson Palmer - Same shit hole bar. I was working door that night and he rolled up with a baseball cap on with his crew expecting me to just let him in. Didn't recognize him so I checked his ID and realized who he was. He slipped me a $20 and I let them all in. I think it was for me not saying anything about who he was in front of the drunk crowd gathered outside the door. Neil deGrasse Tyson - Did a lecture at a scientific facility I was working at when I was finishing up college. It was before he was TV famous. He did a talk about living in higher dimensions and it blew me away. I chatted with him for about 5 mins after the lecture until the facilitator of the lecture grabbed his attention and pulled him away. Junior Seau - Owned a bar in San Diego that was one of my accounts. We did a weekly promo night there with local island music. He would show up those nights to hang out and hear the bands play. Always extremely friendly, very humble and surprisingly quiet. Had a thing for blondes with big bewbs. Always had one on his arm. Tank Abbot - Was sitting at a bar in Huntington Beach. Dude pulls up a bar stool next to me. Paid little attention but from my peripherals I could tell he was a heavy set old dude with a long beard. My buddy comes back from the pisser and says awkwardly loud " Holy Shit. You're Tank Abbot!" He smirked and we ended up shooting the shit for half an hour. |
I was at the same nightclub once that Terrel Owens and Jason Giambi and some real world star was there. But that's about it.

He actually came to our hotel room and watched Friday the 13th part 3 and loved being with us. We had an ice chest full of beer and he just relaxed, socialized and dug the movie. I turned around and my whole goddamn hotel room was filled with on lookers who I attempted to rushed out immediately and Bryan was like its ok - and we proceeded to have an awesome night. He was grateful and thanked me at the end of his visit. It was my best friend and our girl friends at the time. The concert was in Memphis, TN Journey and Bryan Adams. During the entire Journey performance, Steve Perry kept saying Bryan Adams staying at the hotel we were staying at in Overton Square. This is just off of the top of my head Another fun fact, Neil Smith was at JC Penny's here in Baton Rouge. I got his autograph and socialized with him. Nice guy then in the same GD year the SOB signs with the Broncos! SOB! I burned my autographed pic on my then Webber grill. |
