Is Massey good? Or is he just another 4A player?

Good defender. Offense has been subpar. I do think he has a 25 HR season in him, he hits the ball in the air plenty. The lack of OBP is killing his value. I wish he could get his walk rate back to higher minors levels.

Boston is the ultimate pressure cooker of a job because it has won four titles since 2004.

Bloom was expected to win and build the farm system at the same time, ala Andrew Friedman in LA. He built the farm system back up but the Red Sox didn't win other than a surprise 2021 showing.

I thought many of his big league moves were head scratchers. I always thought their roster was underwhelming for a big market franchise with their type of resources.

You mean he took a flyer on an extremely talented SS who had injury concerns? Yes. And what did they give up? A shitty 30 yr old reliever. I dont think that was a bad move by any stretch... it hasn't worked out for either team. But its a low risk, high reward type move that can really pay off if it works out. I mean i get the Albrokie hate around these parts, but let's be real. I can live with this move from his perspective.

He rebuilt a minor league system in just a couple of years that was completely gutted by Dembrowski.

4 straight meaningless wins. The Royals will win some of these games and some guys will look ok winning some games that there is no pressure in. Unfortunately that will lead some people to believe that this organization doesn't need to be blown up and completely started over. Ragans turning back in to a rotten pumpkin is a good thing for the future.

Him having a good little stretch with ZERO pressure gives them false hope and instead of blowing it all the way up they will want to hold on to him. Again, these are all meaningless wins. Now if Ragans finishes strong they need to trade him in the offseason.

How does the threat of not having a job mean he has no pressure? You're a ****ing moron.

jerryaldini 09-18-2023 10:33 PM

Kowar has been good for several appearances. They moved him to the middle of the rubber and tweaked the release after the bad west coast trip. Also the work they've done with MacArthur may be paying off.

Playing in the majors is so hard that success by anyone should be appreciated.

Back when MLB had expanded 40-man rosters in September, I would say there were some late season performances that were questionable, but not in 2023.

There is NO PRESSURE to win, that is what the Royals do. When there is pressure they shit all over themselves. Once there is no pressure to win they win some games.

My current expectation is for Ragans to follow a Royal career arc similar to Brad Keller. It'd be nice to be wrong.

Yeah, it's clear that some of you don't know what you're talking about. Ragans is legit. Brad never came close to being as good as Ragans is. Ragans is 10x the pitcher Keller ever was. Ragans is an absolute beast power pitcher that throws 99 mph for his last pitch of the game.

You do not understand the difference between career arc and type of pitcher?
Let me be a little more specific. I am afraid that Ragans will follow the same Royals career arc as Brad Keller in that he was acquired with low expectations, he showed some success, fans got excited that KC "fixed" him, believed we had a true #1 starter, he then did not maintain those expectations, he then gets hurt/flames out... the end.

As I said, it would be nice to be wrong, and perhaps I shouldn't be as pessimistic with the coaching changes in the organization. However... Royals. We can revisit this in 2-3 years.

And i believe this where it is being explained that Keller is a spot/gimmick pitcher without overpowering "stuff" he can rely on. They are apples and oranges comparisons. You are comparing using a bird's eye view, which could be valid until it's broken down and realize the same struggles of keller would be different than ragans. Keller is working with a swiss army knife, and Ragans has a toolset he acquired from harbor freight. So even when Ragans does struggle in the future, and he will, he has a much better chance to recover.

The Royals are being too transparent on updating the community when they don't actually have any update. Mellinger's press releases would go better if he just wrote 500 words on how great Bo Jackson was and at the end said we still don't know where the stadium will go.

I'd be shocked if he plays another season and he certainly isn't striking out 30 more this year so I'd agree with your assessment that he doesn't care about that.

Goldberg and the other guy are still around.

I'd also be surprised if he comes back. But dammit, I can't help it. My sentimentality wants one more season from the guy.

I'd like to see him come back as a reliever, and perhaps even end things with the Royals on a more positive note with hopefully a much improved club.

This is the type of hire I said I wanted to see... pulling a decision maker from a strong organization.

Ontiveros and Goldberg getting "promoted" upwards. OK. Whatever.

Hopefully Bridges brings some fresh approaches that pay off.

All of these meaningless wins have given the A's highest chance of the #1 overall pick. Not that it matters, the Royals will pick like 7th or 8th and pick a high school catcher.

The bottom 3 teams all have the same odds of winning the lottery.

The lottery system in MLB is so damn stupid. But so is Al Bundy.

Looking ahead, it looks like it it could be one of the better drafts with several dynamite players filling out the "top five".

Royals still odds-wise looking at the 2 pick.

Last time we drafted that high, we got BWjr, and he's quickly turning into a stud only four years later.

It's not all Care Bears, roses and rainbows, but it we can draft another potential all-star next Summer, and get our shit together this offseason, as bad as things look now, I could see a significant turnaround next year.

Yeah that would be kind of cool. But I'm not sure he wants to go through the grind of another season with a team that surely will be improved, but probably is not a contender for the post season next year. Then again, he knew we were shit when he came back last year, so maybe?

I think it's definitely a longshot, but I'd never try to pretend to ever know what's going on in Greinke's head. As you said, he did come back to this season of shit, so who knows?

It's pretty meaningless, but I would just really like to see him get his 3000th K in a Royals uniform. We haven't seen very many milestones like that come out of this organization.

I'm probably delusional, but I think with the offensive parts we currently have, and a returning, healthy Vinnie, and then add in some even competent pitching, and we're probably 20+ wins better. It would be fun to see Greinke on that type of team in 2024, even if they are realistically a year or two away from being a legit playoff contender.

Niiiice. Definitely will keep my eyes and ears open for this. Can't believe that guy is 70 years old already...
