Caught the game in Scottsdale yesterday. Sat right off home and have to say that MJ's jewelry game is on point. Looked like a Griswold Christmas out there.

32 Spring Training games.

WHY?
Whyyyyyy

Almost twice as many fake games as real NFL football games. Would also be 40% of the NBA season. Just silly.

It'll never happen, but I think it would be cool for the Royals to retire #6 for Cain and Willie Wilson, and I could say the same thing for #29, Sweeney/Quisenberry.

Would it have a good view of the sky line from the outfield? The East Village doesn't make sense it will face the highway and whatever generic development they decide to put in

Nope. None of the sites will have a good skyline view. Home to center field must be in a northeast direction.

It's gonna happen downtown. And a skyline view is the least of it. If you plopped a better version of the existing stadium; CF crown video/scoreboard, fountains, etc, nobody is gonna give a shit about the skyline. VERY few ballparks have a lovely skyline as part of the ambience.

And for 81 days, the downtown will be flooded with people going to games, buying stupid shit, eating, drinking, etc... And Sherman will sell the team at a huge profit. And the next owner will have a real challenge on his/her hands.

The game evolved to be slower and it isn't needed.

I like it too, if people who don't like it didn't know there was a pitch clock and were just watching the game they would probably think "Good game moving along nicely." But it's bullshit like this, trying to find loopholes in the rules that are gonna screw it up

So are we to assume that since they're dominating the spring league that this will be a 100+ loss team when it counts, kind of like the old days of Royals baseball??

You named two stadiums. A skyline view would be nice, but it's pretty low on the list of priorities. What skyline view would they get in JoCo or Clay County? It's about getting the ballpark close to downtown because that's what Sherman and the city planners, investors, and politicians want.

2022 - 8-8
2021 - 16-8 1st in cactus
2020 - 9-12 not good
2019 - 18-11 1st in cactus
2018 - 16-13 2 gb from 1st
2017 - 17-15 2 gb from 1st

That's there record in spring training. They seem to always play well in ST.

PurpleJesus28 03-09-2023 08:07 PM

The Royals always seem to score a lot of runs during ST.My question is,do pitchers really throw their best stuff though during ST,or just kinda go through the motions ? Its gonna be an interesting season if nothing else, seeing Garrett and Chapman both in the bullpen,i never imagined seeing Chapman in a Royals uniform.

I don't think pitchers are going out and giving it there all. Im pretty sure they are working on certain or new pitches. Maybe different scenarios.

Oddly, I think that was Canada's plan as well actually. They threw a 19 year old kid in A ball out to get destroyed tonight (knowing they'd likely lose no matter who they pitched) instead of their more experienced pitchers because their games the next two days against Colombia/Mexico will decide whether they advance or not. If they get mercy'd, they get to pitch less innings and therefore save more guys for the next two days. Weird format.

Haha. “Strategery” This is like bad news bears level of baseball.

The group play is a weird format for sure. One day you’re playing major leaguers from Mexico. The next day you’re playing a group of unathletic beer league softball players from Canada.

Last night's game was so great. Japan loading the bases and failing twice before finally breaking through in the bottom of the 9th to walk it off.

Part of me would like to see Trout in the playoffs, but the the Royals fan in me loves being the answer to the trivia question who was the team that swept Trout in his only playoff series.

We're about to see Trout vs Ohtani with the game on the line in the 9th inning.

Bobby Witt in the game to pinch run!

Edit: and he's out on a double play from Mookie Betts.

Japan wins. Ohtani strikes out Mike Trout to win the game and the championship.

siberian khatru 03-21-2023 08:45 PM

Ohtani should make that TV call his ringtone, so that every time he gets a call in the clubhouse Trout hears it.

tk13 03-21-2023 08:46 PM

Trout's going to want those fastballs back. Ohtani threw him 2 fastballs right down the middle, they were 100 mph but those are the pitches you have to hit against him.

Has Trout ever done anything in a meaningful game ever? Choked at the plate all night.
