It just defends so damn well. SGA's scoring gets the headlines but what really sets the Thunder apart is how good and how deep that defense is. If they have an off shooting night they're probably still going to put up 100 points and they'll likely end up holding you to 88. They just don't have a way they HAVE to win. Those Durant teams had to score to win. A lot of other championship caliber teams have needed to lean on defense. OKC just does everything at such a high level. And have a LOT of guys that can do it. And a shitload of draft capital and no bad contracts and a slew of young players. They're a massive problem for the next 3-5 years at least. So yeah - we can cling to the idea that they'll just collapse in the playoffs, but in the NBA that doesn't usually happen. Most of the time, the best teams at least make the conference finals and in the end the NBA has the most 'representative' champions, IMO. I'd still take the field over OKC because the West is really hard and the Celtics represent an interesting matchup for them. If the Thunder have to fight to get through the West and find Boston waiting for them on the other side, that may just be asking too much. But I'm closer to betting against the field than I've been on an NBA team in a long time. They're ****ing good. And for the next couple years at least they're only gonna get better. |
We will see, I would love to be proven wrong.

The real MVP should push this other Morris brother in the back too. Absolute nonsense. |

That said -- I absolutely hate his style of play and hope beyond hope that the NBA starts swallowing whistles in the playoffs. I still remember the league setting basketball back a decade in that series where they just put Wade on the line every time he drove the ball against Dallas. In the final two games of that series the guy drew 46 FT attempts in two games they won by a combined 4 points. To say nothing of the 18 he drew in a game they won by 2. In one series the guy had 3 games where he had 18 or more FT attempts. In his entire playoff career outside of those three games he managed to do that twice. And we're gonna pretend like that was a legit title. The league doesn't benefit from a series where this guy's going to the line 13+ times to the line every game... |

He actually doesn't get called for as many fouls as he should because they just get tired of his fearless relentless stamina. Michael Jordan FTA a game 8.2. SGA FTA a game 7.0. Do you hate Jordan? |
Sounds like he’s getting a lot of breathers to keep that stamina up by being a free throw merchant
