You have a guy who could be a super star if he keeps improving, a possible Ace who if he also keeps developing would be our first home grown guy in forever, the ultimate analytics hero in Vinny P who has all sorts of interesting statistical comparisons, and a bunch of guys like Melendez, waters, and Massey who are all going to play and all have some upside as well. Throw in some possible progress in the pitching department in general by switching coaches and who really knows what this team is capable of? Are they all going to work out? No, probably not. But at least it’s interesting to see what happens, which is far more interesting than watching Santana and Benetendi and Taylor play. It’s just weird to me everyone last year was like “let the kids play! We want to see the young guys!” And then the royals are by and large going to do exactly that and now so many are like “nah this is not exciting at all”. Like outside of the royals getting Juan Soto or some other pie in the sky scenario, I don’t know what people are wanting exactly.

I'm pretty damn excited for this year. So glad we got rid of Dayton and his dumb shit manager.

smithandrew051 03-28-2023 06:59 PM

I got the Royals winning the World Series. Not sure what year though.

I just don't see it.

This is excited as Ive been for a while. Finally get to see all of our young players play. Just Jackie Bradley blocking ppl...but Im hoping once Waters gets healthy he's DFA fodder. I mean Im not expecting to win, but it will be a fun season when I decide I want to re-log into the Ballys app.

IMHO, Pitching is the key on do we break .500.

Dartgod 03-28-2023 08:48 PM

So who's going to the opener? I'll be there on a vendor's dime in section 221.

Dunit35 03-28-2023 09:22 PM

Section 322 for us. Never been to opening day before. Looks like it’s going to be super windy.

Archie Bunker 03-29-2023 07:15 AM

I’ll be in Sec 115. First opening day and first Greinke game. I’m excited.

Hopefully the weather holds.

I can't remember how many I've been to. Quite a few for sure. It was windy as hell last year too. Tailgating was a bitch. It will be warmer tomorrow though.

Pablo 03-29-2023 08:25 AM

Warm and windy isn’t too bad. I can’t remember what year it was maybe 2012 or 2013 the home opening day was like 39 degrees and windy. That sucked

Had to go back and look it up. It was April 4 2014. High of 44 with winds out of the north 15-20mph. Gusts up to 25-30. Woof

Dartgod 03-29-2023 09:23 AM

March 29, 2018. Also a high of 44 degrees plus 10-20 mph winds. Me and Mrs. Dartgod bundled up for the game.

ChiefsCountry 03-29-2023 09:48 AM

First data point from the new pitch clock rules - spring training games. Last year games were 3:01, this year 2:36. Would expect similar in regular season. Getting rid of dead air time one of the best rule changes MLB has made.

Dunit35 03-29-2023 09:57 AM

I’ll be easy to spot. I’ll be the only idiot who’s wearing a Chiefs salute to service hoodie since I don’t own a Royals hoodie.

This was my experience over ST.

Also seemed like most times pitchers were getting the ball out with 8-10 still on the clock. Seems like this benefits pitchers maintaining a rhythm as well as the fans.

Looking at you Marvel movies.

Yes he is. In fact, he's one of the most under the radar ballers in MLB. He has power that few have noticed because of Kaufman being so large.

Here is a tweet from respected sabermetrically inclined baseball writer Jeff Zimmerman of fangraphs. I don't know how to embed tweets so I copy and pasted it:

Quote:

"The Royals Michael Massey hit 4 HR last season. His xHR at home was 3 HR. In Cincinnati, the xHR total was 15 HR.

I can't imagine the hype behind and sub-200 PA player with 15 HR. Instead, Massey has an NFBC ADP after 400."
NFBC just means National Fantasy Baseball Championship. The high stakes ($1,750 buy in) fantasy baseball leagues that draft live in Vegas and New York just like a real actual draft, and the overall winner gets $200k. So cats playing in those leagues are a bit more dialed in than your average clown playing in a mixed 3 OF league for a $10 buy-in with his old college buddies.

xHR is simply the amount of homers to be expected from a given sample size given nothing other than launch angle and exit velocity. That is saying that Massey, had he been a Red, would have had 15 homers last year in under 200 at bats, strictly judging by how well he hit the ball. A full season is just under 600 at bats, so Massey was on a full season pace for 40+ homers last year. As a second baseman.

This is not a Franmil Reyes type power hitter that has no business playing the field, either. Massey has a glove and he also can run too (50 speed per fangraphs, which is above average).

Vladimir_Kyrilytch 03-29-2023 04:11 PM

You guys better ****ing like the look of the new stadium cause you're the ones that will be paying for it. If you don't, the team won't make as much money, and they will be financially limited. They'd have to sign crappy players that couldn't even be described as has-beens, but more like, coulda-beens. Players like Jordan Lyles and Jackie Bradley Junior. Could you imagine such a state of affairs?

Vote yes on unending tax increases for a new stadium for the Royals! If you don't, the team won't be able to afford to pay Zack Greinke into his 50's. And it would be your fault.

ETA: I'm against taxpayer funded stadiums, particularly for teams that should probably be contracted for noncompetitiveness. I didn't mean to bring politics up in the lounge and this is the one thread that I would be legit upset to be booted from, so I'll leave it there, mods, to be safe.

at the same time, Kansas City without the Chiefs and royals would be Omaha, basically.

Hark Clunt 03-29-2023 04:39 PM

like it or not, the royals will be playing baseball in a new stadium by 2030. i'd prefer that stadium be in kansas city and not somewhere else.

you can try to fight the good fight, but you will regret it.

Where every you go, there you are....you can't solve this problem with a geographical relocation....product comes first

Vladimir_Kyrilytch 03-29-2023 04:46 PM

The people of San Diego fought the good fight. They straight up voted no on the Chargers cry of poverty, and said "go on and do it then" when the Spanos family threatened to move. I haven't met a San Diegan that laments the loss of the Chargers either. It's 75 degrees there and sunny on Christmas Day. You can fly kites on the sandy sunny warm beaches there before heading home early to make sure you make Thanksgiving Dinner at the in-laws.

I think the fine citizens of Missouri should give the Royals the San Diego Charger treatment. Oh no, we could lose our 70 game winning organization if we did that. Big deal. I'll teach you how to ice fish. Might sound boring, but ice fishing is really just a northerner's excuse to get away from the wife for a few hours and be able to drink whiskey with the bros. It's a good time.

I think it will have minimal impact because signing bonuses are still the swaying factor and MLB teams still will value more known commodity college baseball juniors over higher risk HS players. The same balance will still exist.

Maybe it might factor in a few HS players forgoing an opportunity to play for Power 5 baseball program but I don't see a mass exodus because of these salary changes. This actually helps the non-bonus baby player more than anything. This is pocket change for first round picks.

So dumb. ****ing Aroldis Chapman's corpse is on the roster and this guy - who should have been in the bullpen the last three years - is traded for a bag of balls.

Honestly, I like the manager hire - but JJ has been and always will be too close to Dayton - jesus they even look alike.

They 100% think they can get Chapman back to what he was and trade him. I guess on the last broadcast Jeremy Guthrie was commenting that Loveladys fastball was in the 80s if that's where he is 18 months after Tommy John...not good.

I realize he's been hurt, but he was good before and why not find a way to keep arm talent in the organization.

Do I think they can do for Chapman what they did for Rosenthal? I dunno, maybe? Is the squeeze worth the juice? Whole other question.

Mecca 03-30-2023 08:43 AM

Relievers aren't the issue, they have guys at AAA that are MLB capable relievers. The issue is starters and honestly more guys are going to be dealt.

Lmao, this is the most shocking news of the decade!

Mecca 03-30-2023 08:50 AM

And the A's traded Pache to the Phillies for some scrub...

I know Pache can't hit a lick but I dunno why in Kaufman you wouldn't be in on a guy who grades as a ++ defender in center, he's good enough he could be a 3 war player hitting 150.

RockChalk 03-30-2023 08:51 AM

Royals front office: It's opening day, let's make some trades.

The industry-pushing Rays employ a similar guy in CF with Jose Siri and Pache is younger.

Even as OFer 4 or 5 a guy that good with the glove has value in that stadium.

The bitching over a turd relief pitcher is hilarious

Look, if you aren't going to spend money - and sherman has shown no desire to do so - then you have to win around the margins. It's gross, I get it, but what i've seen is a change in coaching mentality, something I hope spurs success, but what I haven't seen is any change in the front office mentality. This was a very Dayton Moore offseason - underwhelming starter, reclamation reliever...4A spring training fodder and then the predictable washed OFer with a glove.

In and of itself, Lovelady is not a tragedy, but its a symptom of something not great...

You are just bitching to bitch. And Jackie Bradley is only here because Waters got hurt.

Why you going to bitch and moan before you even see what happens? They haven't even played a game under the new manager and GM, so I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. He didn't spend because why would he?

We're trying to see what we have with the young guys and I prefer that over that dipshit Dayton's approach.

It's the 4 winning season in 29 years that has broken my brain.

Hog Rider 03-30-2023 02:14 PM

I do not see a tv game stream or radio stream for todays game. Sportsurge has none now.

Vladimir_Kyrilytch 03-30-2023 03:04 PM

8 set down in a row by Greinke. 4 clean innings so far. 0-0.

I gave up on finding a stream and paid 25 bones for a month of mlbtv

Fansy the Famous Bard 03-30-2023 04:58 PM

good showing by the O.

jerryaldini 03-30-2023 05:07 PM

You know that thing when Holthus says you're gonna have to deal with the Chiefs? He says it about the Royals too, except it's directed to their own fan base.

We had all these players last year...The team doesnt seem different...

smithandrew051 03-30-2023 05:36 PM

Practically every other local team has reason for optimism.

We can’t have it all.

KCUnited 03-30-2023 05:39 PM

Probably best that they move out of the complex at this point
