Eerie similarities between the 1999 Rams and the 2009 Chiefs.

I'm telling you, we're on to something.

In 1999, the Rams invested a high-round draft choice in a veteran quarterback who had been a backup for another team (Trent Green).

In 2009, the Chief invested a high-round draft choice in a veteran quarterback who had been a backup for another team (Matt Cassel)

In the third preseason game of 1999, the Rams' new quarterback was injured.

In the third preseason game of 2009, the Chiefs' new quarterback was injured (albeit not seriously).

The Rams quarterback had a left knee injury.

The Chiefs quarterback had a left knee injury.

The Rams' previous quarterback starter in opening day in 1998 was their third-round pick from three years earlier (Tony Banks).

The Chiefs' previous quarterback starter in opening day in 1998 was their third-round pick from three years earlier (Brodie Croyle).

During the previous five drafts, the Rams had invested first-round picks in a defensive end (Kevin Carter), a wide receiver (Torry Holt), a left tackle (Orlando Pace), a defensive end (Grant Wistrom), and a running back (Lawrence Phillips), .

During the previous five drafts, the Chiefs have invested first-round picks in a defensive end (Tamba Hali), a wide receiver (Dwayne Bowe), a left tackle (Branden Albert), a defensive end (Tyson Jackson), and a defensive tackle (Glenn Dorsey).

The Rams' leading rushing touchdown scorer the the previous year was a former Chiefs' first-round pick (Greg Hill).

The Chiefs' leading rushing touchdown scorer the the previous year was a former Chiefs' first-round pick (Larry Johnson).

The 1999 Rams opened their season against the Baltimore Ravens.

The 2000 Chiefs will open their season against the Baltimore Ravens.

The 1999 Rams played half of their games in the State of Missouri.

The 2009 Chiefs will play half of their games in the State of Missouri.

Hammock Parties 08-30-2009 11:49 PM

So....wait....a Price Chopper employee somewhere in Lenexa is going to lead us to the Super Bowl?

Huffman83 08-30-2009 11:53 PM

How can it be a former Chiefs first round pick..if they're still on the team?

And playing half of their games in Missouri.....NO SHIT!!!

Hammock Parties 08-30-2009 11:54 PM

The 1999 Rams were coached by a guy who lost his only previous Super Bowl appearance.

The 2009 Chiefs were coached by a guy who lost his only previous Super Bowl appearance.

Wouldn't that be sweet. Wait; didn't the Rams have their other positions in order?

Oh well, nice pipe-dream.

Come in out of the weather Rain Man.

Seriously, that's great work RM, and I tried to rep you but it appears OP's are inactive for repping.

Hammock Parties 08-31-2009 12:02 AM

I think every time something major happens to the Chiefs, Rain Man goes on pro football reference and starts digging.

Random research is like sex to him.

tk13 08-31-2009 12:03 AM

Both teams are quarterbacked by a "nobody" that only got their chance when the starter had his knee blown out by a safety from the AFC West.

GEORGIA FRONTIER ACTUALLY WAS THE INCUBATOR FOR BERNARD POLLARD!

Mecca 08-31-2009 12:06 AM

I think Rain Man has to much time on his hands.

rambleonthruthefog 08-31-2009 12:07 AM

Pollard is red xenomorph; they're more dangerous.

CaliforniaChief 08-31-2009 12:20 AM

Actually I thought that was pretty cool. Nice research, RM!

Lincoln shot in the Ford Theatre/Kennedy shot in a Lincoln, made by Ford

Booth shot Lincoln in a theater and fled to a warehouse/Oswald shot Kennedy from a warehouse and fled to a theater

Lincoln's successor was Andrew Johnson, born in 1808/Kennedy's successor was Lyndon Johnson, born in 1908

OnTheWarpath15 08-31-2009 06:36 AM

And then we find out that the football gods are dyslexic.

The Rams went 13-3.

The Chiefs will go 3-13.

Mojo Jojo 08-31-2009 06:43 AM

Rams had a very good defense
Chiefs not so much

Rams had HOF LT
Chiefs second year guy

Rams Veteran NFL Head Coach
Chiefs first time ever NFL Coach

Rams deep at WR
Chiefs lose starter in Pre Season and he averaged less than a catch per game last season

Rams had NFL MVP Running Back
Chiefs have a Pro Bowl drink thrower at Running Back

I'm Zapruder, and I approve this post.

"Back and to the left.... Back and to the left..."

LaChapelle 08-31-2009 07:08 AM

The 1999 Rams threated to revolt against their hard ass coach for tough practices.

Never, EVER underestimate the amount of people who will, on average, "miss the point".

Fun post, Rain Man.

jidar 08-31-2009 07:22 AM

Also, both teams play professional football.

SenselessChiefsFan 08-31-2009 07:35 AM

In this same line of thinking... the Lions went 4-0 in the preseason and then never won a regular season game. If the Chiefs can lose the last game, then clearly, they won't lose a regular season game.

Wow... it is going to be a GREAT season!

Yeah do you remember the year the Chargers went 4-0 in pre season under Ryan Leaf? They were handing out ass kickings left and right. We were the only team they beat that year in the regular season.:banghead::D

Groves 08-31-2009 08:02 AM

You are off your game, omitting these facts.

1999 Rams were a part of the NFL
2009 Chiefs were a part of the NFL

1999 Rams stadium had overpriced food
2009 Chiefs stadium has overpriced food

Just a heads up, but you may want to remove the Swastika from that avitar. It may be offensive to some...

tk13 08-31-2009 10:53 AM

Well, I guess we can add "Both teams had new offensive coordinators" to the list.

The Rams quarterback had a left knee injury.

The Chiefs quarterback had a left knee injury.

Here's another fact: Trent Green held a Q&A session in Fan Zone at Gate H right before the 3rd preseason game Saturday. I was there, and one of his answers was explaining the adversity he went through after his knee injury

OctoberFart 08-31-2009 11:08 AM

There will be similarities in win/loss record. Rams went 13-3 and KC will go 3-13 this year. Very similar.
