Donkeys in free fall

If this has been discussed in an earlier thread, my apologies.

Cutler just abused Denver last night...it was a thing of freaking beauty. I'll be the first one to say that Cutler and the Donks both screwed up this summer, resulting in the trade to Chicago where Denver got R2D2 Orton and a bag of magic beans for a Pro Bowl QB.

Cutler showed that he has terrific game, an understanding of how to play the game as a mature QB, and he didn't let the sideshow get to him. Chicago has a brilliant QB of the NOW and the FUTURE.

The Donks, on the other hand, have a dinged, sub-par QB in Orton, lots of starters injured on offense, Brandon Marshall going Ochocinco on them, and a rookie coach who is about to flame out in year one. Oh yeah...a HORRIFIC defense that ranks in the bottom five in the league.

I may be wrong, but I can't recall a division having three worse teams in the same year than the AFC West (Donks, Chiefs, Raydahs).

Mr. Flopnuts 08-31-2009 11:43 AM

Just wait until SD wins the division with 8 wins again. This entire division is an embarassment.

Quesadilla Joe 08-31-2009 11:48 AM

Orton was 12/16 for 96 yards last night. Cutler had one good drive and was almost picked off twice by us. Devin Hester did the rest for the Bears....

90% of the users at the planet would have the same stats throwing the ball on screens every single play.

McDaniels purposely called screen passes so that Orton would not make a complete fool out of himself and have the city of Denver go crazy on him, and his QB.

Cutler on the other hand looked like exactly what he is. A franchise QB.

Garcia Bronco 08-31-2009 12:11 PM

LOL. Cutler didn't abuse us...in fact we got the better of him most of the first half. Good grief.

McDaniels is calling plays that we need to work on. Mike Shanahan rarely called screens. We still aren't very good at it, it seemed like our offensive line got called for an ineligible man down field penalty every time we ran a screen pass.

The playbook will open up week 1 of the regular season. McDaniels hasn't even shown 1% of what we will be doing all season.

Cutler had 1 good drive. Period. Cutler is good, but he isn't 2 first round picks and a player good. There are only 2 frachise QB's in the NFL right now, Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, you Chief fans throw around that word to much... I learned that when I heard someone call Matt Cassel a franchise QB.

You don't even know how an offense is structure, so don't tell me this 1% nonsense.

Stick with quoting others so you don't look like a complete tool.

Denver starters 3 ;)

Boy, all that whining, crying, and booing by the Donx faithful sure did have a huge impact on Cutler's performance/the game's outcome.

Watching the Patriots the past 3 or 4 years that Josh McDaniels has plays that go deep down field, and we haven't called any of them in the preseason. We are playing a very vanilla offense right now.

Last year, after the Super Bowl, there was a poll on orangemane: who is the better QB, Roethlesberger or Cutler. They had Cutler winning like 200 votes to 50. I bet their feelings are different now.

Mile High Mania 08-31-2009 12:41 PM

Unfortunately for Orton... injuries and a suspension to the team's biggest mental case depleted a lot of his options. It's hard to get much more complicated than screen passes when you have Chad Jackson starting at the #2 WR slot to open the game.

Overall, the defense looked good early on vs CHI and the Bears didn't do much until that 98 yard drive - that was a nice series they put together. DEN was close to making them punt twice, but it didn't happen.

So far, 2009 is starting off the way 2008 ended... lots of injuries. Simms has to be thinking "WHY WHY WHY" in regards to being hurt, he would have a prime opportunity now to make a move up the chart.

The threads are funny but the Broncos aren't coming off a 2-14 season. To be honest the Broncos look unorganized but so do the Chiefs.

The Broncos have more of a train wreck factor.

DaFace 08-31-2009 12:56 PM

Abused? I don't know about that. Cutler proved a solid game and had 3-4 throws that Orton couldn't dream of making. That said, Orton didn't majorly screw the pooch or anything either. You can't hold the fluke injury against him.

Don't get me wrong, I'm damn happy that Cutler's gone, but he only had one really good drive.

buddha 08-31-2009 12:59 PM

It's easy...Denver has further to fall than KC. Denver HAD a Pro Bowl QB last year...they should have won more games, and so they did.

Saying that Cutler only had one good drive is kind of funny considering dude played how many minutes total?

Cutler isn't at Manning or Brady's level, but he's clearly in that next tier below that. Of the young QBs out there, I think he and Ryan have the most upside right now.

Get used to swing passes and screens with Orton. Dude can't hit the long outs and several other down field NFL routes. It is what it is. If that's good enough to make Denver successful on offense, great for you guys. I'm not buying it, however.

BTW, tell Knowshon to suck it up...I have him on my fantasy team! :)

Yeah, I was actually impressed with how the Denver DEF looked early on... there's some promise with the new system.

Yeah, but last year, you were probably one of the many around here saying that Rivers (not Cutler) should have gone to the probowl. Now, you bow down to Cutler... kinda funny.

That one drive you are referencing was a 98yrd late in the half ball busting drive that was very reminiscent of Elway. He broke the back of the defense on that drive and they never recovered. The Donk defense had been playing inspired up until that point in the game.

I also noticed Orton has been reduced to short dump-off passes based on misdirection. The down-field passes have been iliminated from the offense the last two games. An offense can't make mistakes with that type of scheme and they made plenty. Meanwhile, Cutler was hitting laser accurate passes down-field.

I am soooo glad Cutler is in Chicago.

Cutler wasn't perfect, but getting that 98 yard TD drive in a supremely hostile environment showed a lot of vision and maturity. He's very, very good.

buddha 08-31-2009 01:09 PM

MH Mania...you couldn't be more wrong. I've always been a huge Cutler fan...I'd take him over Rivers any day of the week. I was also his biggest defender around here when the problems broke out between him and JMc. I didn't like the way he played it, but Josh came in and screwed the pooch with a Pro Bowl QB. Just plain stupid!

Same thing will happen to Orton in Denver that happened in Chicago. Teams will see he can't make the down field pass so they will start game planning to take away the short game.

It is amazing how much the Chicago offense looked like the Denver 2008 offense and how the Denver offense looked like 2008 Chicago offense.

It wasn't a great game for Denver by any means, but they're missing a few players right now (Marshall is suspended, Moreno is hurt, Gaffney is hurt). Those first two are huge and they were rolling with the likes of Buckhalter.

The one drive was great for CHI, aside from that - they weren't moving the ball much on offense. Granted, it was a great drive... won't take anything from it.

Someone posted on another site a rumor that was connecting Marshall with a trade to Green Bay for Driver and another player, but the hangup was GB didn't want to give him big $ right now.

I have no idea if this guy was just posting BS or not... but, that would be interesting for the Packers.

I heard all I needed when Lovie Smith said this is the guy we've been waiting on.UHh when do you think Mc Donkhole is ever gonna say that about Orton? I'll wait.....Ok never.Just watch Donkhole fans as they build around Cutler and add the pieces around him to be a Sb team.Does that mean that they will go to or win a Sb? Not really ,but you can bet your sweet asses that they will come closer than the Donkholes, and make you eat it every time you play them.

Not really. Denver had a hell of a HC and a young franchise QB and totally blew it all. Now they suck like the Chiefs and the Raiders and might for many years to come. Furthermore, the very things that kept them better than their division rivals (Stability, HC, QB) might now make them far worse. If you want to laugh, you really need to be looking in a mirror.
