cost us the game

WhitiE 09-20-2009 02:11 PM

yup

kcpasco 09-20-2009 02:13 PM

the late hit is a crappy rule it wasn't a bad call

milkman 09-20-2009 02:14 PM

The total lack of pass rush on that 3rd and 15 is what hurt us.

Refs **** up every game.

Good teams overcome bad refs by making plays when it's clutch.

RNR 09-20-2009 02:14 PM

The game was shit and Russell is a joke. That said it is no different than a QB slide. Two defenders can not pile on a QB that is already on the ground.

-King- 09-20-2009 02:14 PM

Not blitzing on 3rd and 15 and that bullshit late hit penalty cost us the game.

Yes it was.

Russell wasn't down, for ****'s sake. He ran into his own player and fell.

True enough... but that bullshit call pissed me off.

The NFL protects their qb's, any qb in the league would have gotten that call.

You can argue the panzyness of that call if you want to, but the refs are gonna protect the qb at all cost.

They might as well start wearing skirts.

We're going to see bullshit roughing the passer cals on a consistent basis.

The NFL has gone way overboard in protecting the QB.

Players will have to adapt, and the reality, there wasn't any way to avoid that hit by Gilberry.

He was already into his lunge when Russel ran into his O-Line and went down.

suds79 09-20-2009 02:20 PM

This thread should be renamed "all the things that cost us"

- Penalties
- Cassel's pass to Savage before 1/2.
- The personal foul on Russell late.
- The poor STs play. (Beisel)

tonyetony 09-20-2009 02:21 PM

Yipee we're winning the draft position battle. That fourth quarter conditioning really paid off today. Ineptitude has been our curse for decades. JFC after that many mental mistakes I know what it feels like to be a Raiders fan.

WilliamTheIrish 09-20-2009 02:21 PM

Two things? No. A hundred things killed us.

1) Haley, Cassel and Savage conspiring together to take 3 points off the board. There are three very simple decisions that needed to be made on that play. Kick the FG or throw it away in the EZ or OB. All three of these idiots share blame.

2) The two picks.

3) No pass rush. AT. ALL.

4) Dropped passes in crucial situations.

No pass rush. AT. ALL.

Just a terrible defensive effort in crunch time. Horrible effort.

That same penalty will be called everytime. He was on the ground and TWO defenders piled on him. They over protect QBs today

R&GHomer 09-20-2009 02:39 PM

The late personal foul was bullshit. He didn't slide, wasn't touched by a chiefs player. He could have gotten back up and ran with the ball. He was fair game. Bullshit call, bullshit, bullshit, bullshit. He fell over his own guy.

donkhater 09-20-2009 02:42 PM

Another aspect of that FG before the half is the two waste TO's early in the game. Clearly one of them was Jake O'Connell's fault. the other appeared to be Haley's for not getting the play in on time.

Another TO there would've been useful.

KC did about everything they had to do to lose playing that well against a shitty opponent.

LaChapelle 09-20-2009 02:42 PM

The facemask call on Savage was a bit suspect.

Red Dawg 09-20-2009 02:45 PM

No pash rush is the blame for the loss. The other is Cassel's two picks and the brain fart before the half.

Yes, but the rookie needs to learn that he can "touch" players when they are on the ground.

Mecca 09-20-2009 02:47 PM

The late hit call it just part of how the league wants games called the refs called it like they're told to.

Manila-Chief 09-20-2009 02:48 PM

I was on the phone with my daughter (wife on the other end), I had to hang up after the penalty. I was sick!!!

But, look on the other side ... if Oakland had a decent QB we would not have had a chance. The defense held only because of Russel.

Going to be a very long season.

True, but as I understand the rules that was a legal hit. I can see how they called it, but they were wrong. Just like if a qb is running in space and doesn't slide feet first he's an open target. The rules are the rules.

All that said, we didn't deserve to win this game. Horrible mistakes, just stupid. I think the 0 pass rush on 3 and 15 was inexcusable.

I do not agree with the way they protect QBs however with this: (Additions
In addition to roughing the passer, defensive players cannot strike the quarterback below the knees or in the head. Officials may call a roughing the passer penalty if they feel the quarterback's safety is in jeopardy.) added to the rule book they will call that everytime.

Demonpenz 09-20-2009 03:04 PM

I don't think the league does enough to protect the qb, trent greens slide/hit wasn't even a flag

KCBOSS1 09-20-2009 03:40 PM

The rule is a bad rule, but it wasn't the brightest thing to dive on him like that....all you got to do is touch him. Come on

Jethopper 09-20-2009 03:43 PM

How about the costly drop by Flowers of a sure pick 6.........

Excellent point, Jamrcus Russell fell FORWARD with the ball and was not touched, he did not give himself up. A QB sith the ball in his hands and not slideing feet first is a runner, and is open game. Would they have thrown a flag on the Chiefs if that had been McFadden, of course not. Still inexcusable to let Russell drive down the field at the end of the game.

Exactly. A team with a winning mentality takes the punch to the gut and keeps going. Was it a bad call? In my opinion, yes. But take it, get pissed and **** someone's shit up on the next play.

Absolutely. That was a game changing play that has to be made. I'm not going to blame the loss on him though. However, good teams will make that snag and six and bad teams.... they lament what could have been.

Agree 100%. And our fans have been lamenting what could have been for a LONG time. Very telling.

Gracie Dean 09-20-2009 06:36 PM

I thought for most of the game the defense was pretty good and Cassel had time to throw
