Should have given the ball to Patrick on 4th and 1 earlier in the game. Get him on the edge. Force the defense to deal with multiple options, both his legs and his arm.

To that point we'd been running with some success and I think Andy felt a quick snap would catch them a little flat-footed.

Didn't work (and I'd have just kicked it outright) but in the end I can understand the thought process.

Honestly, the numbers don't look great when we ran the ball against the Ravens, but I loved that we took it to them on the ground anyway. We pounded them with Pacheco, and honestly just refused to give them the physical edge.

I'd say both sides fought to a stalemate on that front, but seeing as how that was supposed to be a massive Ravens advantage helps explain why the Chiefs won, and honestly the victory was more decisive than the one-score game it ended up being.

Or....and bear with me on this one....just QB sneak it for a 95% chance at an easy first down. Last game of the season. Cant hold anything back now. Instead we didnt convert.

The Pacheco run play is better than those silly trick plays with Hardman or Toney. But it’s a lot to ask of your OL and RB. They gave the ball to the guy 3+ yards behind the line of scrimmage, which means he needed a 4 yard gain to get to the first down.

Baltimore is a strong defense. Hard to expect to run a play like that and easily get it. Patrick’s arm and legs are a lethal combination. They need to take advantage of it more often in short yardage.

Except it's not the last game of the season, is it.

It is now. Not doing it in the SB if we are given the situation is malpractice.

You sure do have a fat chub at the prospect of throwing the best qb on the planet under a pile of guys that know if 15 goes out, this shit is over.

I do. Its the safest play in football. A hell of alot safer than ANY play he scrambles.

Its such a dangerous play 45 year old Tom Brady always was not tough enough to do it. Oh wait

Brady ran QB sneaks a bunch even over 40, it's generally a high percentage play.

Hey.

The safest play in football ended with Pats kneecap on the side of his leg.

I guess it's priority issue.

Do I want 1 yard, or do I want to have 15 available to throw passes?

BWillie double fist pounding the table, violently shaking his head, tendrils of drool spattering the room as he screeches for the 1 yard.

Incredible.

Dante84 01-31-2024 02:46 PM

Look - on the QB sneak thing. There's a reason we don't do it, and it's not just "because he got injured one time." He's the most competitive mother ****er to ever exist, and if that would give us the edge, we'd run it.

There was a twitter thread a long time ago with Stroupe replying to questions about Patrick's leg structure - his legs bow inward. Its even part of the reason he has his funny little jog walk.

I think they try to avoid having Patrick placing a shit ton of strain/torque on his knee joints in a 10-12 man pile.

Mahomes took some big shots last week. All of those hits were more likely to injure a QB than a sneak.

I think they don't want him squatting 2,000lbs of linemen on his uniquely shaped legs.

Exactly. A sneak should absolutely be on the table if Pat sees the opportunity and thinks it will work.

And a simple drop-back blew Brady's knee out. Another one got Mahomes contorted like a pretzel last week. Still another yielded an ankle sprain he took months to fully recover from.

Football is a violent sport and weird shit happens. There's no reason to believe he's any MORE likely to get hurt on a QB Sneak than he is on any other play. On a percentage basis, a QB sneak is one of the safer plays a QB can run.

You would think so. But somehow the QB sneak led to a sideways kneecap for Patrick. And they say that when a person has the kneecap dislocation, it makes them a million times more likely to experience it multiple times in their life compared to other people who have never experienced it.

Sadly I'm in the same boat as Mahomes, except my kneecap dislocation happened while trying to sit down on a hotel bed at Bellagio in Las Vegas. The damn bed was really tall. Something went wrong with the angle of my legs and body while trying to sit down. I've been extremely paranoid about this topic ever since it happened, since I know I'm in the category of people who are more likely to keep experiencing this fluke injury.

irafreak 01-31-2024 09:40 PM

I don't have a problem with the call on 4th down. The previous possession, Pacheco punched it in from what the 4? I get the ravens expecting run more on the latest 4th down but we were having success.

Bump 01-31-2024 10:56 PM

that play was legendary. 3rd and 9, you win if you convert and he bombs it to MVS.

Fair I guess. I bet it'll work against SF.

BigRedChief 02-01-2024 09:00 AM

Back to the opening post......

Game on the line.....who else's hands are you putting the ball in?

When you have Mahomes as your QB, putting the ball in anyone else's hand besides Mahomes hands is an immediate firing offense.

Color me shocked. You're unable to walk and accomplish a secondary task. Minds all over CP are blown.
