Attention: Fans of "The Godfather."

I just finished "listening" to "The Godfather Returns" by Mark Winegardner....... WOW!!!

I highly recommend it. It is extremely well written. I suggest checking out the unabridged CD book. 17 CDs. Well worth listening too. Scott Brick is the best book narator I have ever heard. He does a magnificent job and keeps you listening. Does a dead on Michael and Fredo. The story picks up at the end of "The Godfather" (movie) and goes to 1962. Absolutely great.

Where did you get it?

I read it and didn't care for it. Of course, once you've read Puzo, there is no substitute.

If you're a Puzo or Godfather fan, check out "The Last Don"; there's a book and also a mini-series that was released on DVD (check e-bay, stars Kirstie Allie, pre-Crispy Creme era). The book is more brutal and violent than The Godfather, and that's saying a lot if you've read the book.

See you guys in week 1 at your house. J-E-T-S.

the last don book was really good, so was the sicilian, although the movie for that one spewed loads.

I read it when it first came out. There was one gaping flaw - the complete absence of Frank Pentangeles - but other than that, I enjoyed it and it was a good read. It did try a little too hard to meld fiction with fictionalized fact, though.

I checked it out from our library. But Borders should have it if you want to purchase it.

I wondered about Frankie Five-Angles not being in it too. But it didn't bother me too much. The new characters (Nick Jerace, et al) are pretty good.

Agreed:

Johnny Fountain = Frank Sinatra
Jimmy Shay = John Kennedy
Danny Shay = Bobby Kennedy
Louie Russo = Sam Giancana

etc.

Is that who he is? I thought so, but wasn't sure. But then again he's writing an expose book in the end.

Yeah, that had to be the comparison he was going for.
