In light of recent penalties given the Saints...

...would this be an ideal time to attempt to pry Brees away from the Saints? Without Payton he may not want to play for the Saints. Thats a dead franchise for at least the next season.

O.city 03-21-2012 01:11 PM

I don't know what it would take to get him away from there.

Bowser 03-21-2012 01:11 PM

They aren't giving him up for shit. Even moreso now that Payton is out for a calendar yaer.

Brees is going to be the defacto coach of that team this year.

mlyonsd 03-21-2012 01:12 PM

Brees will stay and try to get them to the playoffs no matter what.

And obviously the owner would want to kill the franchise for good by trading away Brees.

Sofa King 03-21-2012 01:12 PM

It'd be awesome, but there is no way.

A) Brees would have to demand a trade
B) Probably 2 first round picks at least
C) Brees agreeing to extension before trade happens (@ $20/mil per year)

That being said, in the main thread about the penalties, a lot of us agree a good starting point is 2 1st rd picks plus Cassel

O.city 03-21-2012 01:13 PM

Can they just continue to franchise Brees year after year, if they can't get him to sign a deal?

Brock 03-21-2012 01:13 PM

He's the heart and soul of that team. It isnt' like they aren't going to be as competitive as ever.

I don't think they can do that anymore. I believe that with the new CBA, you can franchise a guy once, then he's a free agent if you don't get a deal worked out in that year.

Valiant 03-21-2012 01:15 PM

Well brees is only really good qb, not a great one, so just giveup what you would for a great qb, the gm would have to take that.

Graystoke 03-21-2012 01:15 PM

First there was Peyton Planet
Now there will be Brees Planet

The Hunt Family owns Chiefs.
Get used to Cassel

bevischief 03-21-2012 01:29 PM

It is being discussed in the in http://chiefsplanet.com/BB/showthread.php?t=257609 Sean Payton suspended 1 year thread

gold_and_red 03-21-2012 01:32 PM

Throw in Cassell to sweeten the deal? :hmmm:

Quesadilla Joe 03-21-2012 01:34 PM

The Donks could use a backup QB.
