***US Open*** Serena’s Last Dance

Let’s go Serena! Been a fun match so far against the #2 player in the world tonight. Hoping she can pull off the upset and gain some momentum for a storybook ending to a fantastic career. Won the 1st set in a fun tiebreaker. Crowds been electric, but Kontaveit is looking strong. Hopefully it’s setting up for an epic final set. They showed a stat that Serena is 99-3 after winning the 1st set. Legendary career for sure. Let’s hope it doesn’t end today, but it’s not looking great right now. Kontaveit is starting to roll.

That Estonian chick was deer in headlights tonight with the entire crowd cheering for Serena.

Doesn't say much for this era of tennis when the #2 player in the world completely shrinks against a half-retired player.

I don't watch tennis but **** me, that is an impossible stat IMO.

That's in her US Open career. She's a phenomenal frontrunner.

Djokovic is also 62-1, Nadal is 53-2, and Federer is 77-6 when they win the 1st set in the USO. The legends tend to not lose when they get a lead.

Too bad that number won't change this go around.

Can’t control government rules that make no sense, I’m afraid. Hurts the tournament for sure.

Somewhat, it also has to be difficult when the entire stadium is cheering on your every mistake. Serena looked absolutely out of it in the first set and then after winning the tiebreak, her opponent wilted under the heat.

I think it's mostly due to the fact that there's not clearly dominant players on the women's circuit as there has been in the past.

A bit like golf, after Tiger, there hasn't been a clearly dominant player. It takes a different type of athlete to put in the work to be that dominant. Especially in an era where 'pretty good' will make you a lot of money.

And down she goes. Fought hard in that last game though.

She is done.

ESPN weeps.

Perhaps mens tennis needs a ''bad boy'' of sorts. But man does act he like a douche on the court.Gesturing/making fun/yelling and damn near hitting fans with a ball.TBH i hope he doesnt ever win a Grand Slam singles title.
