One stat that is simultaneously "wow, Veach!" and "c'mon, Veach"

Heard this on the Time's Ours podcast.

The two biggest cap hits at the LB for the 2022 Chiefs are:
  1. Anthony Hitchens
  2. Jermaine Carter
Truly an impressive display of epically screwing up LB free agents while absolutely crushing it in the draft.

Another factoid from the podcast: the Chiefs have drafted 28 players since 2019. 24 of them (including Niang on PUP) are on the formal roster, 2 of them (Nazeeh and Powell) are on the PS, and only two: Darwin and BoPete are no longer with the team. So Veach can fill a damn roster.

However, correct me if I'm wrong, though: he has yet to draft a Pro Bowler. (Creed at the very least deserved it, but the fact remains.)

Hardman was a Pro Bowl returner (somehow).

smithandrew051 09-01-2022 08:14 AM

Didn’t Hardman make the Pro Bowl as a returner as a rookie?

I've got another stat I heard on the Robert Mays The Athletic podcast that fits with the title:

The Chiefs led the league last year in yards per rush before contact. (Good Veach!)
The Chiefs were last in the league last in in yards per rush after contact. (Bad Veach!)

God, I hope our running backs can be even competent this year.

A by-product of picking last or near last every year. You cant hit on every draft pick or FA signing.

Is your point that Veach is overated or something? I'm sticking with in Veach we trust.

rabblerouser 09-01-2022 08:16 AM

That's amazing.

There is little to criticize my homey Burt Leach about

He is hitting about 80%

You want to draft like the Raiders or Patriots?

From The Athletic Football Show AFCW preview pod:

The Chiefs' run game was #1 in yards before contact and #32 in yards after contact.

The Chiefs were 25th in the league in pressure rate when they didn't blitz, they also had the most expensive defensive line in football. The 2022 Chiefs still have the most expensive DL in football.

Man this shows how good our coaches are. Andy and Spags coach circles around the rest of the league. Rookie coaches dont stand a chance against their superior schemes.

It does, although part of coaching is making sure the best players are on the field. I think this mostly happens, but hopefully it happens at RB in 2022.

We could have the highest paid gunners on special teams and **** everyone else if it means another home AFCCG and Super Bowl run, really.

CEH has about 3 weeks to prove he can do it, last chance to be a lead back imo.

ChiefBlueCFC 09-01-2022 09:01 AM

The running back thing is so confusing. I mean, is it a vision issue for CEH? I know he is small, but I guess if you can't see and identify the hole then...

But, it seems like all of our backs have this issue, so hopefully that stat changes this year with RoJo and Pacheco in the mix.

Wonder how short of a leash Clyde will have this year if he struggles to produce. Especially if Pacheco plays well

That was stunning.
