Had this done 10 years ago....the surgery was a breeze, pretty much like Iowanian described. Mine looked like a marble bag when they took it out. Whatever you do, don't wait until it bursts before going to the hospital. The same time I had mine taken out, another guy at work let his burst and he had to wear some sort of catheter for a couple of weeks for draining purposes.
As for what you eat afterwards......i always measure the food I eat by the distance I am from a valid bathroom. If I am eating something that I know will slide thru me like wax paper on a metal slide, I usually do it at home. If I am out eating somewhere that there is no bathroom I would use, I eat things I know will take the normal time to exit.
Ice cream, fruit, some fried foods and anything Chinese are the pressure points for me.
