Derrick Ransom and Eric Downing.

Personally, I like the way Ransom has performed in limited duty over his career.

But this has to be a concern. I'd still take this over Glock any day of the week though.

I believe John Browning will be one of our starting defensive tackles.

I am really surprised we cut Martin. I thought he did fine in preseason and in limited action last season.

I don't know if I necessarily agree that 'quicker is better' when it comes to defensive tackles. I tend to prefer mammoths who can stuff running lanes...

Cannibal,

I watched all 4 pre-season games and while Downing didn't shake up the pass rush too much, he was the only guy who was consistantly clogging up running lanes...I'd like to see the guy play more...

{edit to answer HC's post}
Downing is 318...one of our bigger DT's

Yeah, you're right about that.

The Star did say that Ransom may start with him next Sunday though.

The coaching staff keeps refering to our D-line as one of our areas of strength. They don't seem to be concerned at all with the fact that we may not have pro-bowl players at DT. Even though they games were only pre-season games, we did and excellent job against 2 premier RB's in Taylor and Faulk.

LMT - Likes the way this team is shaping up!!!

What I'm curious about...

Is Downing already and obviousely that much better than Martin?

Luz
they are both big run stuffing dts...

I think like most teams we will have a steady rotation of D-lineman coming into the game. I agree with the post below, however. Browning is clearly a starter at tackle.

Martin: 6'4", 320lbs
Downing: 6'3", 305lbs

Browning will start next to Ransom.

HC,

Downing is listed on NFLPA.org and NFL.com as

6'3" 314 lbs.

Thanks HC, now what about Sands?

I know he's on IR, but I believe he's the big size also.

Luz
getting a sense of direction...

Sands is 6'7" 330 or 340.

But he's a long way from playing.

I just looked it up on KCCHIEFS.com

He's 6'7" 340lbs.

FYI,

Downing is listed at KCChiefs.com and TSN as 6'3" 314 lbs.

Sands is HUGE: according to my KC Roster Chart, he's 6'7", 330lbs

htmis - ESPN reports 305 and KC player's chart reports 302 for Downing.

The site does say 314 - but I think they're 'fudging' - he has not gained 15lbs since April 25th

The thing I find interesting with regard to Sands is DV indicated we want to have smaller, but quicker D-linemen for the scheme we want to run. Having a hard time picturing Sands a being quick, but you never know!!!!

he has not gained 15lbs since April 25th

Why not? I gained over 60 lbs. in the 6 months since I got married. :D

He's "officially" listed with the NFL as 314. I think I'll believe that...

Hmm, well ESPN and my roster(obtained at mini-camp April 25th, 2001) show him at justover 300. It is quite possible he has gained that weight since then - but I kind of doubt it seeing how they went through TC with an emphasis on speed & quickness, rather than girth and power.

I think KC may be 'fudging' his size on their 'official' site, and NFL.COM & it's affiliates obtain their stats directly from the teams.

I'm SOOOO GLAd that Dan William$ is on thr PUP list. Now maybe the potentialy distracting "William$ Watch" will stop for at least 6 weeks. Then, after William$ still can't go, (Is there really any doubt?) it's the IR and it's OVER. Before anyone says anything about the wasted $$$, STOP! In my mind, it's a wash. Either way he ain't gonna earn his money. This way means the Chiefs get a jump on finding his REPLACEMENT! :D

Well, he has really torn it up in the preseason games. I've seen him get penetration, and chase down people. The only downside is it's mostly been against other reserves. However, this guy has a motor and he could be a surprise stud just like Hicks.

at least we are now young at DT and anything is better than Chester , at least now teams will have to earn 5 yards instead of being givien 5 by Chester .

Regardless, HC, he's looked pretty good against the run and I think in our rotation he has a chance to be very solid...

With Dan Williams on PUP, and Chester in Denver, we just elimated 35% of our defensive penalties from last year...
