There are indications that the Chiefs are interested in re-signing veteran defensive end Leslie O'Neal. The Chiefs have been in contact with O'Neal's agent, and the sides were working toward agreement on a contract.
Asked whether the Chiefs and O'Neal would reach a deal soon, coach Gunther Cunningham said: "I can't tell you that right now."
The Chiefs recently released O'Neal from his contract. The Chiefs slashed his salary for the season from $3 million to $440,000, and O'Neal didn't report for any of the off-season workouts or training camp.
If he can strike a deal with the Chiefs, O'Neal would have the third-most career sacks of any active player. O'Neal has 1321/2 sacks. Only Carolina's Reggie White and Washington's Bruce Smith have more.
Also an update on the kicking situation. It would be nice to get another pass rushing weapon out there. Parten's highly expendable to make room for him. <P>
