Today may have been a blessing in disguise

Whether we were looking ahead to next week or just flat out played a shitty game it was a good wake up call at the exact time we need it. As youg and inexperienced this team is a good reality check the week before the playoffs was probably a good dose of medicine that we needed. They understand now you can't just walk onto the field at Arrowhead and win.

Some are going apeshit abotut oday and indeed it was a bad game. But I will look at the silver lining that is there and say this may have been the punch in the mouth that we needed heading into the playoffs.

@ Denver was one.

@ San Diego was one.

Loss to Oakland is another one.

Now tell me how did the Chiefs play the weeks following each of those games.

bevischief 01-02-2011 04:00 PM

Not another one...

I hope your right because we definitely got punched in the mouth.

How many wake-ups do these Dramamine-chugging fools need?

Being blown out three times by divisional opponents is not good. Lots of work to be done this offseason...

Yep, lots of work to be done in the offseason. But that was going to be the case no matter what. This team has played well after blowout losses this year so far....hopefully they can continue to do so. Next week is the most important game to this franchise in a decade, and I think Haley will have them show up.

They should've shown up today. No excuse, they went undefeated all season at home until this week.

That's exactly what my wife said.

Good luck, next week, Chiefs. Hope you win!

Young team. Playoff game secured. Some off-field coaching distractions and probably some of the younger players playing not to get hurt so they don't miss next week.

We were prime for a let down game today.

What scares me about next week is that we're going up against a battle tested playoff team. I don't know how this team of ours matches that intensity, or if they even know how to match that intensity...

That's exactly what I was telling my son during the game. Pete, who knew? But you are getting a rep from me for thinking the same way.

Well, we have to get battletested in playoff games some how if this regime is going to start a trend of going to the playoffs.

I love Petegz's uncanny ability to turn one of his own posts into it's own thread.

I do agree though.

You're not kidding!

Spott 01-02-2011 04:52 PM

Well, I was worried about having another one of those undefeated seasons at home only to lose the first playoff game at home like he have 3 other times. It's possible this loss could be a blessing in disguise, but man that game sucked.

Gonzo 01-02-2011 04:57 PM

The sky is falling! The season's over! We only won 10 games this year!

JFC, it's year 2 of a rebuild. If KC makes as much progress next year as they did this season, they will go undefeated and win the SB in 2012.

Honestly this is exactly what I was thinking when the score was 3-7... especially if the Colts also lose. Wake up call for the Chiefs, and we will likely be over looked in the playoffs. Plus if I recall we seem to rebound very well after losses like this this year.

Excuses, excuses, none acceptable, yo play every game to the finish, this should've been a Playoff tune up game. You play all out or sit, half speed play will hurt you in one way or another.

I can't wait to watch our first playoff win since 93 next week.

We were prime for a let down game today.

And a loose Raiders team with nothing to lose.

keg in kc 01-02-2011 05:31 PM

It doesn't really matter. Beat the Ravens next week and nobody will care about losing to the Raiders in week 17. And they can beat the Ravens.

Which is the better matchup, Jets or Ravens?

Jets in my opinion, but other people will disagree.

I think they're both beatable, especially at home.

I don't know if we were blessed today, but I do know that Haley delivered the best press conference of his career after the game. He said all the right things in the correct order.

The soap opera fans will be disappointed, though. Apparently, Haley and Weis still like each other. And, even though I still think Weis should be shipped via ground freight to Alaska in order to be harvested for blubber, his decision appears to be based on issues entirely unrelated to play calling, control of the offense, or dibs on the last potato chip.

Anyhow, given that Haley is still relatively new to this head coaching deal, he seems to have the right attitude and is keeping the bigger picture in mind. Can't help but like this guy.

Sincerely, Sam Hall/ after any and all NU losses.

How about this? We got beat, physically along the LOS. Absolutely destroyed by their DLine. Give them some credit Pete.

It had nothing to do with anything you wrote and everything to do with them physically whipping this team in the trenches.

I concur. But I was equally interested in his claims about "immediately putting the loss behind" the team. Not in 5 hours, as he said, but now.

Smart.

Exactly. Which, by the way, he said he would have done win or lose.

Haley continues to impress me with his ability to keep the priorities sorted in good order.

Ravens had some trouble beating the Browns today. Doesn't mean much, but it could be THEM coming out flat next week.
