Wolfenstein: The New Order out May 23, with Doom 4 beta access

The big news here isn’t the release date for Wolfenstein: The New Order, which was always assumed to be due in the first half of this year, but the fact that Doom 4 actually exists and is far enough along that a beta is already being organised.

After having been delayed and restarted multiple times Doom 4 had essentially turned into vapourware, with the departure of id Software founder John Carmack seeming to hint that the game had been completely abandoned. But that’s clearly not the case.

The promotion for the new Wolfenstein only refers to the game as ‘Doom’, suggesting it’s being pitched as a reboot. Although Doom and Doom 3 already had the same basic story, so it wouldn’t make much difference.

Bethesda has issued the following statement, but offered no details on the nature of the game itself:

‘Although you’ll receive the Doom beta key code with your copy of Wolfenstein: The New Order, the Doom beta won’t begin until a later, yet-to-be announced date. We will contact you with news and updates surrounding the start of the Doom beta via the email address provided during the key code redemption process.’

The New Order is being created by new developer MachineGames, which was founded by many of the same people that worked on The Chronicles Of Riddick and The Darkness at Starbreeze Studios.

It’s out on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC and was looking great last time we saw it.

Wolfenstein3D on DOS was the shit. This looks, meh. I guess it's a step in the right direction since it looks like they took a page out of Inglorious Basterds and decided to not take themselves too seriously (after the Return to Castle Wolfenstein fiasco).

This looks really pretty good and I am not a fan of FPS.
Looks like its worth buying just for the storyline alone.

I'm really not into FPS anymore but I may play this. I'll wait a couple weeks and see what you ****ers think about it.

The last one was ****ing awesome, and that was a decade ago.

The game has high system requirements I don't think my PC can run it.

RTCW is what got me started on FPS for computers. I played the demo for like 4 months before buying the real game. Kept playing "trench toast" and the beach over and over again.

While watching the commercial on TV my wife walked in the room and I jumped like she had just caught me watching porn.

What was the "Return to Wolfenstein" fiasco? That game ruled.

I remember when I bought my first "Gaming" video card. ATI 2MB model. 2MB of video POWER! Holy shit that card would play W3D like warm butter.

Just made a whim purchase and grabbed this. I game so very little anymore, but this is one title I'll play. This, Bioshock, and Half Life are just about the only games I have any interest for anymore.

Hopefully this plays as good as the trailer looked (for me, anyway).

Back in MY day, we played Pitfall on Atari. And we LIKED it.

And that ****ed up Pac-Man game. WTF was that silly shit, anyway?

Nothing like the actual game you had to go to an arcade to play.

Man, German's have to thinking "It's been 70 years now! When will we stop being the go to bad guy that everyone loves to kill!!"

Pretty addictive. Blew through the first disc in about four hours. Looked up and it was 3:30 in the morning. Haven't pulled one of those in a while, lol. The controls are uber easy and the game play is pretty slick. And either this game is pretty tough or my gaming skills have eroded away to n00bian levels. Likely the latter. Pretty bloody game. Lots of shooting, stabbing, and gutting going on. Lots o' dead Nazis everywhere you look.

Didn't read any of the backstory or anything, but I did wonder how the Nazi war machine was chugging on as strong as it was, especially considering how the last game ended. Probably going to go hit it again here in a bit.

I'm not completely sure it's worth a 60 dollar purchase just yet for the casual gamer. I'm a fan of the Wolfenstein series, so I didn't mind. I enjoy it so far, but I'll keep up with the updates.

I think it's pretty fun and finally a new game I could get for the PS4. I am on normal difficulty and have had some trouble with a couple parts so far. I am 4-6 hours in. The game probably has the longest intro stage before the beginning credits that I have experienced. Hell, that opening play sequence is longer than MGS Zeroes.

Yeah, no shit. You make it through that sequence, then credits. I laughed.

It's a fun game. I'm probably three quarters done with it. The action never stops, and I found myself glued to playing it. I'm on normal as well, and it's a test. I might go back and play it on easy once I've completed it to try and find all the hidden objects and such.

All in all, I'd recommend it, especially if you're a FPS fan.

It's too bad this wasn't an RPG. I mean I know that would be a huge departure, but some open world gaming in a Nazi controlled alternate future would be badass.

Hate to spoiler this, but in this game, the Nazis are the alpha and the omega. The done went and beat the **** out of erryone.

I wonder if the game will be moddable. Could be fertile platform for mods.

So this game is ****ing frustrating at times. The audio mix is awful. I cannot hear anything that the NPCs are saying. There is no way to adjust the audio so that you can hear voices over sound effects. I have subs on but that is often white on white. They also just toss bad guys at you that cannot be killed in conventional ways without giving you a tip or hint. Maybe it is because I am playing on death incarnate (4 out of 5 difficulty) or something.

Lol, this game is tough on normal. Playing the super duper tough level would be near impossible.

I've made it all the way to the London Monitor. I just can't seem to get past it....

I'm on the moon now. This level has been a bit more fun simply because of what the weapons do to the bodies.

Finally got around to finishing it. Fun shoot 'em up game.

Playing this now and need to wrap it up. I found it to be really derivative and relatively boring, but it does have good graphics. I'd give it 6/10.

Ready for a new game. Annoyed at the lack of compelling new games for PS4.
