New logo in Miami?: the dolphin may no longer be wearing a helmet.

This is a bit of a pet cause of mine. :)

This probably isn't the new Dolphins logo, but you're going to look anyway

The above image was originally posted by DolFansNYC and may, potentially, possibly, kind of be a concept sketch for a new Miami Dolphins logo. It probably isn't! But you never know. Here we are, looking at it. Isn't that something? Wow!

We at SB Nation still prefer our version, of course.

Dolphin wearing a helmet of a dolphin wearing a helmet of a dolphin wearing a helmet of a dolphin wearing a helmet of a....

Yeah, I can see why they'd want to change. And I like how it doesn't try to make the dolphin look mean. That just seems silly. A mean dolphin?

The dolphin's helmet has an "M" on it (it must play for Miami of Ohio).

The old dolphin had some concussion issues. It wouldn't surprise me if he winds up shooting himself in the chest in a few years.

Damn, you think he'd do that on porpoise?

This completely sends the wrong message in the era of concussion management. The helmet absolutely has to be wearing a helmet, and in fact the league needs to start mandating helmet use by the Detroit lion, Jacksonville jaguar, Oakland raider, Denver bronco, Atlanta falcon, Carolina panther, Tampa Bay buccaneer, Arizona cardinal (which would look really cool in a helmet, incidentally), Seattle seahawk, Buffalo ... um ... buffalo, and even that little 1950s pixie that the Browns use.

Helmet on Helmet love.

The Dolphins are the only team left with more outdated unis than us.

RealSNR 12-26-2012 11:54 AM

They should get rid of that tacky orange circle if they want to update their logo.

The Dolphinception is kind of creepy too, though

alpha_omega 12-26-2012 01:26 PM

Helmet? That dolphin needs a facemask.

That happened to Hank Hill once.

No matter what they do to it, it'll still be the gayest logo in the league.

I think it's the sun. However, throughout my childhood I thought it was a flaming hoop that the dolphin was leaping through. I guess it could be either.

Dolphins - The dolphin, like some other cetaceans, has a retractable penis that is also prehensile, meaning it can grab, hold and wrap around an object (think monkey tail). Imagine the benefits of such an appendage! This guy did. But what's even more disturbing, is this joke faq about how to have sex with a dolphin. At least I hope it's a joke.

They should switch to an edible mascot:

Dolphins have the worst logo and uniforms in the league

the best uniforms in the league are seattle, chiefs, NE, falcons.

Can you imagine him wearing a helmet and jumping thru the sun?

Microsoft paint?
Photoshop?

mikey23545 12-26-2012 05:35 PM

The NFL, in case you haven't noticed, has been removing anything in the logos that identify with a specific city. I'm sure the KC will soon be gone from the Chiefs logo too...

hometeam 12-26-2012 08:05 PM

If the Dolphin wants to be a badass, it needs a neck roll.

I watched America's Game on the NFLN last night. I was aboot the 1972 Dolphins with Manny Fernandez, Don Shula, Larry Csonka.
They wore that ghey logo with pride and watching the Manny Fernandez highlights gave me the feeling that it doesn't matter how ghey your logo is, it's how your players play the game.
The Dolphins have a legacy despite having fruity colors and a dolphin as a mascot.
The Chiefs have manged to win a super bowl despite looking like Ronald McDonald.

At the end of the day, the logo is only as tough as the players that don that uniform.
Black and Yellow is for fuzzy bumblebees.

chefsos 12-27-2012 06:21 PM

Here's a clearer version, Photoshopped onto a helmet:

The Dolphin with a helmet is better.

Except for the orange winking pirate uniforms in Tampa Bay. The 1985 Bears would instantly become the 2012 Chiefs if they had to wear those uniforms. Those uniforms personified everything that is wrong in this world.

The Fridge was made to wear a creamsicle colored uniform. The winking pirate would have made his demolitions even more demoralizing to his opponents.

If the Bucs wore the Chicago jerseys at that time people would think Navy and orange are a ghey combination and their logo looks like an old lady's saggy boob being lifted onto a mammogram plate.

It's all a matter of perspective I guess...
