In the last 20 years...
Looking at things from 1991 through 2010... I heard Mike & Mike talking about this today. Comparing QBs drafted #1 and how they're really about 50/50 on whether or not they have proven to be worth the selection over the last 20 seasons.
Then, comparing that list to the list of starting QBs on SB winning teams in the same 20 year period. I think there have been something like 11 QBs selected #1 overall in this timeframe... and 5 of them have been on SB winning teams. Guys like Stafford and Bradford are early in their careers. 14 different QBs have won a SuperBowl. Rypien (round 6) Aikman (3X, round 1P1) Young (round 1P1) Favre (round 2) Elway (2X, round 1P1) Warner (UDFA) Dilfer (round 1P6) Brady (3, round 6) B Johnson (round 9) Roethlisberger (2X, round 1P11) P Manning (round 1P1) E Manning (round 1P1) Brees (round 2) Rodgers (round 1P24) Just found it interesting and thought I would throw it out there... |
someone should show this list to the true fans here in KC, and see if they can pick out a common theme among that list.....

1st, 2nd, 6th, and UDFA's are ok. |
Unfortunately, True Fans can only see that Tom Brady and Kurt Warner won Superbowls.

Two of the 20 are Mannings. Theme, Draft more Mannings. |
Rypien (round 6)
Aikman (3X, round 1P1) Young (round 1P1) Favre (round 2) - I think he was only a pick or two away from the first; traded for a first Elway (2X, round 1P1) Warner (UDFA) - Million to 1 shot Dilfer (round 1P6) - Brady (3, round 6) Eleventy million to 1 shot B Johnson (round 9) - All world Defense Roethlisberger (2X, round 1P11) P Manning (round 1P1) E Manning (round 1P1) Brees (round 2) - Only a pick or 2 away from the 1st. Rodgers (round 1P24) So, basically our Front office is banking on the Million+ to 1 shots. |

How can you have 22 #1 picks overall in 20 years...I must be missing something...
|
But if your team never starts rookie QBs ever the point is kind of moot.

2nd and 3rd-round picks are valuable enough and the law of averages are clear enough that teams just aren't going to pick QBs much in the middle rounds anymore. |
Bascially it tells me we wont win a Super bowl with Orton, Cassel or Stanzi...
I am sure this will still come as a surprise to some of the true fan nbreds here... |
to me it shows what round a QB was drafted in isn't that big of a deal.
Brady has as many Super Bowl wins as Troy Aikman who was drafted first overall in 89. Warner was better than Dilfer and he wasn't even drafted. |

not sure if srs.. |

There needs to be so much team chemistry, that it is a crapshoot to know which QB will gel with which group of players and which coaches.
