Not to send this off to the DC, but my industry is very automated and was one of the first to adopt mechanization/automation. Which is good because I wouldn't be competitive in the global market if I wasn't. Even if I was forced to not adopt automation, Brazil, Australia, Russia, etc. would adopt it and any labor gains the national economy got would be lost in the long term, because I couldn't afford to pay my help to compete globally. My margins are bad as it is.
On top of that, the work that is required in the industry nobody wants to do, so the work that is still required to be manual is almost exclusively done by migrants which are almost exclusively immigrants, so eliminating mechanization/automation from my industry would have little economic gain.
