There was an old Twilight Zone episode kinda like that. A supercomputer replaced all the workers except for the manager. And if memory serves, he went loco being by himself. Then the computer replaced him!

(Something like that, it has been years since I have seen it)

I didn't even check on my job, it could be automated tomorrow. Im guessing initial costs is what keeps them from doing it.

Nope. Gotta be in the cab. For hours. I have to turn the machine but there are programs to do that, they're just stupid expensive.

It's definitely a good thing. I can drive pretty straight, even at night, but the fatigue factor is enormous. It also lets me better monitor the implement. You don't know how many times I would plug up at the end of the field and drag a pile forever because I was busy driving.

The real problem is I need to be in the office, not in the field. But the lawyers say OEM can't shed liability of collision avoidance of there is no one in the cab. So I sit.

Ask Detroit what happens when your industry can be done cheaper and more effectively elsewhere and by others. You think that an industry that can save money and be more efficient through automation isn't going to go that route just because they're worried they're removing capital from a potential customer base?

Sucks that I can never drive truck anymore.

They are coming out with Tractors with sophisticated safety equipment. Collision warning systems. Automating braking. Lane departure warning, Etc.
