EVERYONE is hoping this benching knocks some sense into him and he comes back to the team ready to participate and give full effort. His play will follow, and so will fan sentiments, period.

Yes, and the coaching staff and the fans have made that very clear. The question is if the fans are happy that they broke a good player, or do we take some accountability for not acting like dicks to a perfectly good player. I am with you on the latter part that I hope he grows up, and if he doesn't, ship him off. But the last sentence is bullshit. There are lots of people who hate him for reasons completely external to his play. Even if he becomes a shutdown corner he'll always have a target on his back. He sure did earlier in the season when his play or temper wasn't at all an issue.
