WS game 5 thread. Cards go for the championship with BRC in the house

I've been to a Super Bowl. If my beloved Chiefs ever make it to the Super Bowl I'll probably watch the game on TV with buddies and family over seeing the game live.

I seem to remember about 21 years ago being up 3-1 against some blue team from the west and they came back and kicked our butts. But this ain't 1985. This is a different team.

No one expected this. Even the most hard core Cardinal fan never expected this deep of a run in the playoffs. I know a lot of you here hate the Cardinals or and St. Louis. Just take a moment and a few deep breaths.

How often in life do we get a chance to see our teams win a championship live? With a lot of luck on my side I find myself and my son with tickets to see my team play for the World Series title. I hope Karma is on my side and my son and I get to share a moment that will last long after I'm worm food.

Bold = edit. Rep for Chiefscountry

Since El Duque went down, I don't necessarily disagree with you, but here's why:

The Cardinals own the NL West, they have a better record against the West than any other division in baseball.

The Dodgers and Padres aren't built for the postseason and don't have any true "big bats". If you need Nomar or Drew to get a big hit for you, you're ****ed.

However...

New York matches up well against us. They have good team speed and good power throughout their lineup. They have a good closer. If we play the Mets, we will most likely lose because their bullpen is better than ours.

Edmonds is done, absolutely done.
Belliard is a very average bat.

Molina has been terrible at the plate this year.

Our bullpen is still a nightmare.

If Wainwright pulls a Papelbon and Looper pitches well, we have a chance to win the NL, but only if we also get 6 innings from all our starters and Johnson, Thompson, or Kinney nut up. One or two of those guys has to pitch over their head.

That's a lot to ask, and this is a highly flawed team. At no point should Marquis take the mound during the playoffs. He's horrendous. His fastball is way down in velocity and he clearly never got over the shellacking in Chicago.

Hmm... fairly insightful.

I barely slept last night I was so excited to go shopping for my "World Series CHampion St. Louis Cardinals" gear today; sadly, it's hard to find here in Kalamazoo, MI.

What a rush. WHEN the chiefs win the Super Bowl, I can die happy.

Props to the Tigers and their fans (I know plenty of them), they sure turned it around in a hurry. Feel bad for Polanco, he's my favorite ex-Cardinal, hated to see him go 0-for-series, but he's a little banged, he'll be back.

One other interesting fact, I found this surprising. As far as I can tell, going through Super Bowls and NBA champs... this is the first time in the history of the three major sports that a league has had 7 different champions in 7 straight years. I never would've guessed that.

Okay, I take that back. Baseball also had 10 different champs in 10 straight years from 78-87. Actually I think that's happened more. I was reading a Jayson Stark article where he said the NFL had never had 7 different Super Bowl champs... didn't mention the other times it happened in baseball.
