Just came back from teh greatest sporting event of my life. Well, actually, back to the office to post this and then grab the car and get out of here before cars start getting flipped. More cops out on the streets than you can point a stick at. Oh right, they're the ones with the sticks.

Anyway -- the Celtics sure as hell showed who the better team was, and the Garden was rocking, showing the pansy-ass Lakers fans how to intimidate a team. Everything was going right for the C's. That shot where Garnett got knocked down and threw it in one handed was sick. Ray Allen bombing threes all over the place (what pathetic defense -- hwo often does he have to hit a wide open 3 from the corner before you put a body on him).

God what a great day. One of the all time greatest days of my life.

CELTICS ARE THE WORLD CHAMPS!!!

I must say, the place was rocking from where I was sitting. We were still screaming De-Fense at the top of our lungs even into the 4th when we were up by over 30. At one point, a Laker (Odom, I think it was) was at the line at my end of the court in the late 3rd early 4th, and things were relatively silent when I screamed "Brick it -- we want to win by 40!", and I got several high fives from those around me.

Whole 4th quarter was a big party. The na, na, na, na, hey hey hey, goodbye chant was awesome.
well, you didn't have this guy, but the Gang-Green was gettin the job done

I actually think they can play good defense, and they actually played excellent defense until they met up with Boston. They shut down Boozer and Ginobli better than anybody else in the NBA had been able to, including the Celts.

But it all keys off their offense. Their offense gets them going. Once they get on a roll offensively, their defense kicks in. Which works, if you're not facing one of the historically strongest defenses the NBA's ever seen.

The Lakers have one of the best defensive backcourts in the NBA: Fisher and Bryant are All NBA quality. Farmar is a good pressurer off the bench. Radmanovich and Vujacic are great anticipators. Odom and Gasol wreak havoc on defenders who are smaller than them. Turiaf is as tough as they come off the bench.

But they don't get into it until their offense gets rolling. They have taken the lead from their MVP, and it shows.

I loved hearing this, reminded me of the old Garden. Its amazing how loud the new Garden can get when the crowd actually has something to cheer about.

Caller into WEEI that they're playing repeatedly:

"It's not easy being a Boston sports fan. Do you know how much money you have to spend on championship shirts and hats?!? WHA HAHAHAHAHA"

Seriously, this is absurd. 6 championships in 7 years. Let the good times roll!

Just think, there are some poor kids in Boston that are nearly 15 hours old that have no idea what it feels like to root for a champion.

Heartbreaking.

My oldest boy is 7. In his life, we've had

3 Patriots Super Bowl victories, 1 SB loss, and 1 AFCC loss.
2 Red Sox WS victories
1 Celtics Championship

(oh, and zero Yankees WS)

Unfortunately, he's too young to appreciate any of it. What's worse is that my dad was a fanatic baseball/football fan, born in 1926, and by the time the Patriots and Red Sox had started winning for the first time in his lifetime, the alzheimers had already hit and he had no clue what his own name was. 75 years of NOTHING.

The worm has turned big time. I hope it lasts just a few years longer so my boys can appreciate it.

Rather than self-aggrandize Boston, I'd rather make this victory about Kevin Garnett. Guy is as pure a basketball heart as you can ask for, with a full-time overload on adrenaline. He's also a great guy, and rebuilt an entire franchise by just being himself.

I'm just happy that my team could give Garnett something that he needed as desperately as what we needed from him.

He's a great Celtic. He could retire now and have #5 retired in Celtics green.

Winter Park's Austin Rivers, son of Doc Rivers, commits to Gators Buddy Collings

Sentinel Staff Writer
11:36 AM EDT, July 3, 2008

Austin Rivers has always been several steps ahead of his age group in basketball.

The 15-year-old Winter Park standout stayed in front of the pack Wednesday night when he orally committed to play basketball for the University of Florida.

Rivers, fresh off an outstanding freshman season for the Wildcats, is the youngest player to commit to Billy Donovan in his head coaching career.

The previous earliest commitment for Donovan in two seasons at Marshall and 12 at UF came from Lake Howell's Nick Calathes, who starred for the Gators as a freshman point guard last season. Calathes pledged to UF on April, 28, 2005 following his sophomore season of high school play.

Rivers is the son of Doc Rivers, coach of the NBA champion Boston Celtics. He is a 6-foot, 3½-inch combo guard who averaged 14 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals for a 28-2 Winter Park team in 2007-08.

Rivers has played to rave reviews this spring and summer on the travel team circuit and in individual exposure camps. He was one of two Class of 2011 players in a pool of 20 highly-rated guards who participated in last week's Steve Nash Nike Skills Academy in New Jersey.

Rivers' older sister, Callie, is a volleyball standout heading into her sophomore year at UF. His older brother, Jeremiah, is transferring to Indiana after playing his first two years of college basketball at Georgetown – serving as a lockdown backcourt defender last season for the Hoyas.

Under current NCAA rules Rivers would not be able to officially sign with the Gators until November of his senior year in high school.

Rivers is playing up in age with a 16-and-under Team Stat travel squad this summer.
