A clap, sush and earplugs. I have heard of putting a warm bottled water or even a heating pad on low in the kennel with a little pup just to give them more comfort and maybe a feeling of being around mom and siblings.

I've also heard about getting something that generates the sound of heartbeat as well.

The potty training we used Newspaper and when ever we saw the puppies mess on the carpet we immediately put them on the paper. We also have a doggie door so when we got them off the newspaper it was then straight out the doggie door to go to the bathroom, so that was easy.
Now I showed dogs in 4-H for 9 years and took my dog to the State Dog show many times, so I know a lot about training. My honest opinion is to sign up for an obedience class at Petsmart, it covers just the very general stuff and really forces you to make time to train your dog. If I didn't sign up for that I probably wouldn't have spent as much time with obedience because I "don't have the time". My class was 8 saturdays for 1 hour, very easy and the bare essentials, very good for puppies IMO. Crate training is never easy at the begining, it takes patience. We have two puppies right now (both 1 year), so we just did all of this stuff not too long ago. On the crate training it is really just something they have to get used too. Many people are going to tell you different methods, but I will tell you what worked for me. Our mini schnauzer started off in a little cage in my room at night, and she would wine and do that for a while, but she got used to it, and now she is in the living room and does fine. Our other puppy actually sleeps in my room, but stays in a crate while we are gone during the day and both do great during the day. |

EDIT: I actually just signed him up for the class starting July 19th. I guess he only has to have his first set of shots. Last edited by The Franchise; 07-02-2008 at 12:33 PM.. |

I have never tried this but was told the wind up alarm clocks that make a tick tick tick sound will work as a heartbeat sound. My neighbor said that he just wound one up and sat it outside the kennel and it worked. Like I said though, I've never tried it.

You probably should delete this thread before a Muslim happens to come across it.
